Marlins president David Samson neither confirms or denies this is the new logo. But, IF this is real, all I can say is... horrendous. This is one Marlins fan that will not be sporting this atrocity. Holy jeeez.

Yeesh, it looks like the sign for a theme park ride. I'll see T-God's "horrendous" and raise it an eyesore... If this is for real, it could become the first team logo that actually causes free agents to take less money elsewhere, rather than have to wear that cartoon trainwreck 162 games a year.

I can accept that there are fans that wouldn't wear the logo.  What I have a problem with is saying that there are Marlin fans. Cheesy

I am thinking this was "leaked" on purpose, to get a feel for the fans' reaction prior to the official "announcement."  Once it is announced it can't be re-done.

So, I suspect that, due to the ridiculously vastly negative response (hell, "Miami Marlins" was trending on Twitter today nationally), this will not be the real logo.

I could see the proposal though.  The color scheme is an attempt to appeal to the Latin American community (which the Marlins organization really cares about more than anything) and the little jumping Marlins looks strikingly similar to the jumping Dolphin from the Dolphin Stadium logo.

Besides, if you're David Samson, you see this atrocity, and the response it is getting, and it ISN'T your logo, why wouldn't you just refute it immediately?  My bet is, up until yesterday, it WAS their logo, and the "leak" was a test market for them.

I know, if that ends up being reality, I will rock my "Florida Marlins" gear forever, because there's no way I will put that monstrosity on my t-shirt or hat.

How could someone even think that's a good logo?

This is exactly a "leak" to test the market. This happens at Apple and Google constantly (when someone "leaves their iPhone at a bar with new features", that is a controlled leak to test public perception and to build hype).

There are parts of it I like.

I think that just looking at the "M", the color scheme is unique and telling of the product.

I don't really like the Marlin itself and the colors chosen there seem odd.

I really hate the "Marlins" font.

But there are things here that aren't too bad and could make for a cool identity.

The jumping Marlin is the only part of it I like.

The font of the "M" is horrendous.  How bout some style?  curvy lines or something?  A "Marlin" is a graceful animal, how bout representing that.

The color scheme of the M is completely irrelevant for the team.  The team colors are black, silver and teal.  Where does the yellow and red come from?  I'll tell you - from the Colombian flag.

Should they use this logo, they should rename the team to the Miami Mariachis or the Miami Latin Connection or the Miami Muchachos or something else, because they are clearly ONLY interested in recruiting Spanish-speaking fans.  This was evident since the moment they chose the location for the new stadium.

David Samson is off his rocker and should be immediately fired if they don't draw the predicted 36,000 per game which he claims will be the average attendance.  Especially after moving a bunch of their games to 12:40 PM.  This guy is ruining this team.

The font and color scheme suck.

I get that they want to use those colors, as they have for the new ballpark logo:

But that logo is actually pretty decent. IMHO, it's the black background and white center that are making the logo look garish.

I suspect that the logo would look a lot better if the black background were replaced white and the white center of the M simply left out.

I don't know where the yellow is coming from?  It has never been included before.  I don't get it.

I really do like the colors.  I think it's throwback to classic, Havana nights-style, old Florida, from the 60s.  I don't think I like it up against the black, and like I said, it doesn't fit the rest of the logo, but I do like the M.

Brian,

The team is changing the name (Miami Marlins) and the logo.  Are you really surprised that they are also changing the colors?
