With logos and branding, do your best not to have a snap judgment.  You think you want what already exists, but you just don't know any better.  But it is when things break from those conventions, that they make a name for themselves and truly create their own brand.

I am not a big fan of logo changes.  I only starting now to warm up to the fly Elvis instead of Pat the Patriot and that change occurred in '92-'93.

If a team moves should be the only reason for a logo change.

Brian,

The team is changing the name (Miami Marlins) and the logo.  Are you really surprised that they are also changing the colors?
I guess that's my problem - I am OK with the Miami Marlins (I thought it should have been that the second Tampa Bay was granted a team), but they already have a "M" logo, that it very nice!

What's wrong with that?

I just think you gotta pick 2-3 colors and stick to it.  There's black, yellow, orange, red, blue, green.  Hell, every color under the rainbow is in there.  Talk about a team with no identity...

^^The Marlin looks scared, confused and about to be pulled into a boat.

Absolutely. Brian is spot on. Now THIS I would have no problem with.

I don't mind logo changes, there have been plenty of logo changes that I've given a personal "thumbs up" to. But then there are times where you just have to wonder who the hell approves, or HIRES the people that create such disasters. The new logo looks like default clip art from a software program. Hell, it's a gas station or motel logo. Prediction: it won't last if it is indeed real.

^ That logo is the same as the Dolphins logo, in essence.  It's also the same as the old Marlin logo.  If they are trying to re-brand themselves with a new image, that exemplifies something else, a new logo is fitting.

orange, cyan, white, yellow (I don't think black is an official Marlins color anymore; that's just the background)

aqua, orange, white, navy

white, black, red, orange

red, blue, gold, white

What's the big deal?

It might be one extra color that you're not counting, Spider -- gray/silver.  Either way, it's still very comparable.

The M has a total of 5 different colors. That's just too much. Looks like something a kid would throw together.

Regarding the black background... if you insist on having WHITE letters for the team name, a dark background is hard to avoid, so black is a team color in this case. You can't have the logo without it.

None of this matters because Hanley Ramirez sucks now.

OH HELLL NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Why they just dont replace the "F" with an "M"

If this is the logo, you may as well say bye bye to the Marlins in the future.  It may be obvious that they not counting on the marlins to stay in South FLA anyways

As was mentioned it looks gay but it's obviously aimed at the Hispanic Floridians and Bahamians.  It certainly won't help to boost ratings for the other 80% of the state.

Of course the Astros sported a gay quasi rainbow in the 70's of which most people disliked. I myself liked it but what did I know ... I was a kid.

I dislike the Pathers logo...always have.  Too much going on.  I prefer clenliness and simplicity.  I wish they would give that an overhaul.

I think the Panthers logo is great!  I also like the lesser used "palm tree and hockey stick" logo.

But that would look silly on the front of the jersey.  They have it on the shoulders and its great!
