Update, as of now, the thought of Edwards or Croyle in a Phins jersey makes me want to projectile vomit.

I agree. It seems that our current philosophy at QB is to only attempt to go after cast-off's from other teams or refuse to use a first rounder on a potentially elite athlete because of the risk. At some point, that's going to have to change. If Henne is, in fact, done for the season, and for his career in Miami, how many more losing seasons will it take before someone in the front office says, "Hey. OK we have not been competitive for 15 years. The formula we are using isn't working. Drafting a QB in the first round is damn risky, but it isn't going to make us any worse to take that chance." I might be the biggest Henne backer on this site, but the idea of Luck in aqua and orange is appealing! The idea of Delhomme, Croyle, Edwards, etc....not so much. -EK

I'm pretty sure the idea of these names only exist because we have a hurt QB who may be out for an extended period. I don't think anyone consideres them a viable long term QB solution.

Oh no. That's not what I meant to imply. I was more thinking aloud that they seem content with the idea that "good enough" is good enough. When the Jets needed a QB they went after a big name (Favre) then took a chance on a rookie (Sanchez). Neither has been *stellar* but wow... at least they tried, ya know? -EK

Marino lost his last game by nearly fifty points; was that Henne's fault too? -EK

No.  But Chad Henne IS the reason we invaded Iraq.

...and the reason we're in a recession.

Update, as now we have also worked out B. Croyle and Trent Edwards. -EK

I love it!! Don't even talk to Garrard, he might help us win a few games and screw this year up. We are 12 weeks away from finally being in a position to get "our next Dan Marino". Our decade+ of utter failure will come to an end. Let's not sabotage ourselves and try and bring in a capable QB now.

As far as acquiring a new backup goes.  I think they want to give Moore a shot because he gives us the best chance to win.  Yes, I know what you are thinking.

Moore knows the offense.  They probably think he is the best shot we have.  Garrard doesn't want to be a backup, from what I have heard.  Delhomme knows the offense but might also not want to be a backup.

I would bet that they are telling these guys that we want to see what Moore can do before they get their shot.  Thus the answer is... call me when you are ready.  If we get a guy who needs the money, they are more likely to sit and wait for a chance.  Thus there is more buzz about Croyle and Edwards.  Not to mention, they don't want to overpay a backup.

So the real question is - Does Moore give us the best chance to win?  And - Do we want to win?

My answer is no, we don't want to win.  Winning won't get us any progress because we aren't going to win enough to matter.  I would say, bring in Delhomme and let him throw interceptions.  The head office guys can say he was the best choice due to his knowledge of the playbook and save face.  Moore probably gives us the best chance to win, maybe even more than Henne.  He will save his career and get a shot elsewhere and we will be stuck with a mid-round draft pick.
