Does anyone else think the NFL is getting way out of line with fines?

Matt Birk fined $5,000 for not wearing an NFL films microphone

Troy Polomalu fined $10,000 for texting his wife on the sidelines, after he was already knocked out of the game, to tell his wife he was okay.

Yeremiah Bell fined $15,000 for "roughing" Tim Tebow

Roger Goodell:  When in doubt, fine

idk, just my observations.

But the two coaches who get into a scuffle after the game escape any sort of fine at all.

Stay classy, Roger Goodell.

Both coaches should have been fined for that debacle. And Roger has a horrible double standard issue going on right now in this league. And it popped up again this week. Marc Sanchez was eating a hot dog on the sideline his rookie year during a game and he had to apologize and people were screaming he should be fined for such an action. And it was a national story for like 3 weeks. The league sent a letter to Sanchez and the Jets not to do that, blah blah blah. I mean the dude eat a hot dog in like 3 bites while on the sideline. The whole thing took like 45 seconds.

Yet last week, Sunday Night Football NBC was showing Sean Peyton eating a full 3 course dinner in the middle of the 3rd quarter as the game is going on in the coaches box as his team is up by 30 pts or whatever.

Yet no national outcry for that or any league memo got sent to the Saints according to reports.

If you could choose only one or the other, who would you rather have as the owner of the Phins...Ross or Goodell?

Goodell. Not even close. I might not agree with everything he does but he is a true leader

That's hilarious... If you define "scuffle" by what transpired between Harbaugh and Schwartz, and you applied the same "Scuffle Fine Chart" equally to both coaches and players, then there would be a half dozen fines levied on virtually every single play in the NFL.

That's an easy call...I'll take the one who actually knows something about the business of football...Goodell.

If the exact same event occurred between two players well after the game had ended, you and I both know that the league office would have handed out fines.

The pathetic excuse from the league ("nobody actually threw a punch, so I guess we can't do anything about it, tee hee") would never be deployed if it were players in that situation.

Not sure whether to chide you for drinking this early in the day or give you mad props for going all out to improve your score on the ridiculous scale...

Harbaugh: too strong a handshake and a pat on the back
Schwartz: Tried to nudge his way in to have words with Harbaugh before having large football players separate him.

Please feel free to provide an example of players being fined for that activity.

Well, please feel free to spend time looking for an example before giving up and either admitting that you're being flat-out goofy or offer up some "I don't want to spend time looking" excuse...

Yeah, when players do that, that's called shoving.

Are you seriously contending that players haven't been fined for LESS than that?  The NFL just finished fining A.J. Hawk $10,000 for flipping the bird to his own sideline.

Where does it state in the NFL rulebook that you're not allowed to have a hot dog on the sidelines during a game?

If you can find me that piece of factoid...

And that's why he ultimately wasn't fined. Your missing the bigger picture and the point being made, the fact that he was "almost" fined and the league wanted to do something and issued notes, memos, and made him apologize is the point. They took something very minor and blew it up for no reason.

Yet when Sean Peyton is eating dinner during the middle of the game and it is broadcast LIVE on NBC Sunday night football, you don't hear a word or a peep.

Double Standard!

No, Captain Double-talk... I said that no players have been fined for doing exactly what Harbaugh-Schwartz did during the handshake incident, which was in direct rebuttal to your comment stating that "If the exact same event occurred between two players..."

Not "If something less than that event occurred..."
Not "If something sort of like that event occurred..."
Not "If something that could be abstractly compared to that event occurred..."

Please save your political debate tactics for the political threads in the off-topic section. It's hard to truly express how fucking annoying that is to deal with in a football discussion.

See, that's the difference between the words "if" and "when."  If I meant, "When the exact same event occurred between two players," I would have said that instead.

Since fact-checking and research are apparently your specialty, feel free to cite when this exact incident has happened between players well after the game has ended.  Stating that "no players have been fined for doing exactly what those coaches did" is a content-free statement if no players have done that.  Guess what?  No coach has been fined for fake mooning the crowd, either!  By your logic, what does this prove?

I'm sure you're happy about the coach of your favorite team showing some "moxie," and think that he certainly does not deserve to be fined for this completely innocent misunderstanding, but try to take off the homer glasses for a moment, please.

P.S. No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to reply; feel free to simply click Back at any time.  As a bonus, it saves me the trouble of navigating through the twisted loops of semi-logic you like to throw up when you're backed into a corner.

Thanks for the response, Spidey... It didn't contain any actual logic, but I'm certain your keyboard appreciates the workout.

Maybe you can use one of those handy-dandy econonomics graphs to illustrate your next non-point.
