Looking ahead to next year this unit is the strongest and needs the least amount of work. Any new head coach we have must be a 3-4 defense guy because all of our talent is molded for that. Going to a 4-3 would be very counter productive right now.

-Gotta find a way to keep Soliai.
-Gotta get an OLB to start instead of Misi. Misi brings little to the table. Good for depth, nothing more.
-Need 1 CB opposite Vonate. Smith in the nickle you can live with I guess.

Even the free safety position has improved as the season has went on. Yeah sure upgrade if you can, but not losing sleep over it anymore. This unit does not need a lot. Merling and McDaniels I am guessing will be gone, even a new head coach won't want them around with the "issues" they have. The D-line is great, hope we can re-sign Langford. Dansby and Burnett are FINALLY Dansby and Burnett playing great these past few weeks. Wake is having a down year, what can ya do. But this unit I wouldn't do much with right now moving forward.

Odrick has stepped up big this year
Vonate when healthy is having his best year of his career
Soliai is playing well again for the 3rd year in a row now
Bell gets better with age
Dansby once he shed the weight he put on from the lockout is playing like an elite MLB these past 5 or 6 weeks

I mean Nolan will be gone, but whoever we get as a GM/Head Coach must not be dumb enough to blow up the defense. This unit is very good!

Amazing. Winning does cure everything it would appear, at least to MikeO.

doesn't cure everything. The offense is still a mess in my opinion. No big play threat at WR, pass blocking blows, Moore has a low ceiling and is limited, and we have no legit threat at TE. The special teams has been poor this year as well in my mind. And the head coach and GM both suck.

But the defense is and has played very well for most of this season. That can't be ignored anymore especially after today's dominate performance.

Dominant? Jason Campbell, Jacoby Ford, Taiwan Jones, Darren McFadden, Denarius Moore all out with injuries. That's like half of their big play offense. There's no such thing as a 4-8 team with a dominant defense. Waste of a thread. -EK

Waste of a Response! Once again, you TROLLING and instead of adding anything to the debate.

The defense was dominate today. And has been above average for a while now. To deny that fact is putting one's head in the sand or up their own rear end!

This entire thread is based on the fictional assumption that there will be a new coach next year.

shutting down a Raiders team which is missing half of their starters is expected.  When they leave NEw England and only give up 17 points, then let's talk.

we aren't going to have a new coach? ha ha ha ha ha.....you are living in a fantasy world pal!  Everyone from Peter King, Adam Schefter, Mort, to Glazer has said Sparano is done at the end of the year. But keep thinking we are going to keep him! NOW THATS FUNNY!!!

And its not JUST the Raiders. The defense has played well vs Dallas, Washington, Giants, KC, Houston, Cleveland, Jets. The Defense has played well the past 2 months. If people want to ignore that, whatever!

More than one moron in the world.

Nobody agreed with me on Jason Allen last year either, everyone ended up looking stupid! And that's just one example where I have been right and the majority has been dead wrong!

How can you say the defense played "well" in 4 games that they lost a lead? That's pretty much the definition of NOT playing well. If the offense puts you in a position to win, and you blow the lead once or twice, that's one thing, but it was a running theme for most of the season. Gotta tell you, too, I have read nothing indicating Nolan will be gone. I've actually read the contrary- that he will be kept based on the play the defense has finally had in the past five games. You're making a lot of assumptions with little to go one there. -EK
