Changing field names sucks.  It's awful for branding.

I don't know about in south Florida, but here no one seems to care about the Magic arena's naming. Everyone I know just calls it the arena and has for as long as I've been around. I don't think anyone here associated the venue name with the Magic so it doesn't affect branding. The culture down south may be different though.

A stadium needs to be named for something indefinitely.  Otherwise, it has no meaning.  We have all of these amphitheaters, stadiums, arenas, and ballparks, and they all change names every few years.  It just adds confusion and people say "Is that the old <whatever it used to be called>".  I don't know one person who calls it Sun Life stadium.  They either call it Dolphins Stadium or Joe Robbie.

The only stadium that I can think that has any kind of branding here is the American Airlines Arena, and I think that's only because it is known as the "Triple A".

Either call it Joe Robbie Stadium or call it the New Orange Bowl.  Enough with this corporate bullshit.

A guy named Frosty on another forum I'm on said they should call it Don Shula field at Joe Robbie Stadium.  I'd be down with that, but it'll never happen.

Thank you, thank you.  I'll be here all week.  Tip your waitresses  Wink

Seriously though, can we start a petition to name it Joe Robbie Stadium once again?  Joe Robbie deserves to be remembered!

Either or both of these would also be acceptable although if you call it Don Shula field At Joe Robbie Stadium, it implies there's a second field in there.  that's my only bitch about that.

It really doesn't matter.  There's money to be made in stadium naming, so they're going to keep doing it.

It'd be nice to get a sponsor that isn't some fly by night clothing company, beer you never heard of, or ghetto bank.

My favorite stadium names are ones that are creative and iconic: Candlestick Park, Camden Yard, Fenway Park, etc.
