F'ed in the A

I don't really want Landry Jones.  Rather wait till next year.  Don't settle on another bustalicious bust and pass up good supporting talent, just to say you drafted a 1st round QB.

I'm starting to think this a double edged sword for Miami.  Created by most of the fan base and the media.  The quarterback woes are seemingly going to be everlasting.  There's so much pressure on Miami to take a QB in the first round.  Whomever they draft will instantly be under the microscope and have the proverbial "big shoes to fill" left behind by Dan Marino.

So it's goes back and forth from "Miami needs to take a QB in the first round"  to "Miami needs to take the right QB in the first round"

Idk, I probably explained this horribly, hopefully the point gets across

Worst news for Miami. Actually its beyond horrible. Means the teams in the Top 5 now have MORE leverage with their picks. Want to move up to get a QB, plan on parting with a lot. The asking price just doubled.

If Jones stays at OU, then you really only have 2 legit QB's (and I'm not even sold on RGIII) and Miami is royally screwed.

Can't blame Barkley, he will be the #1 pick next year probably and not be overshadowed by the "Luck Hype". Plus he would probably take a pay cut to go to the NFL, this is USC, they pay well!

If the Colts win next week vs Jax they lose the #1 overall pick as long as the Rams or Minny also lose

Meaning a team "with" a QB would be picking first. Meaning they could trade the pick(doubtful) or trade the young QB they already have. So Miami could be looking at Ponder, Bradford, or Luck being on the trading block.

What's the shock and outrage? I told you guys this would probably happen over a month ago and no one listened to me.
Why is it a forgone conclusion that Barkley will come out? Isn't it still possible he returns to USC? He isn't a senior, he doesn't need the money (his family is pretty wealthy already), and if he stayed, he could go after the Heisman that Luck is likely going to win this year. I'm not saying he WILL stay, just that it's not so improbable. -EK

Mike adamantly denied the possibility ever happening.
Barkley isn't staying at USC for his final year. There is no reason too. It's a program in flux with sanctions and scandal all around it. There is no reason for him to return to USC for his senior year at all.

It's not like you couldn't see it coming. Even I could see that; and according to some people I don't have a clue about football.  -EK

I can see Barkley's reasoning behind staying for his senior year.  USC is off probation after this year and will be allowed to play in a bowl game.  With the talent around him, he not only has a chance to win the Heisman but also to win a national championship.

And I have to agree with MikeO that USC pays well.  Just ask the Dolphins soon to be 1000 yard running back if you think otherwise.

To be fair, the die hard USC fans I know in California were sweating bullets that he would not return. It was almost a foregone conclusion that he would leave since he would be a top 5 pick. There was much rejoicing in Southern California when he announced.

It was definitely NOT a foregone conclusion. Collin Cowherd mentioned it on his show before I did, and the guys on ESPN First Take mentioned it about a week after I did. Maybe for people who were too close to the situation to look at it objectively it was a foregone conclusion, but it wasn't for the rest of the country. -EK

HA....from Matt Barkley's mouth himself...
"At first, I was pretty much positive that I was leaving right after the season because I was on such an emotional high"

Like I said, all the hard core USC fans were legitimately concerned they were losing him to the NFL. Maybe some other people had some other inside information.
