Brees new single season passsing mark

When there are 4 or 5 guys approaching a record that stood for 27 years, something has changed.

Especially when one of those 5 guys is Eli Manning.  Really?

From a Dolphin perspective:  it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, that the rules are set up to favor passing in the current NFL.  The fall of the record was inevitable.

I felt this way too, until I saw the stat showing Marino was something like 50 yards per game ahead of the league's average, and Brees was like 90 yards per game ahead of the rest of the league average. That seems to indicate that even in a league more pass-happy, Brees' success was greater than Marino's. -EK

That's the way the league likes it. Fans too for the most part I think. All the rules that have been put in place to protect the QB's are paying off. More guys are throwing the ball around then ever before and are avoiding major injuries better then ever before. The NFL's popularity is at an all-time high. You do the math.

Did you not see the stat they put up during the game that showed the whole league was averaging 50yds passing a game more than in 1984.
The average this year is over 350yds a game.
Marino averaged 317 in 84
Brady, Brees, averaged more, Rodgers and Manning averaged just under.
Of course that did not count Brees running up the record more today in an effort to win the MVP since Rodgers did not play.

Yes I saw the stat. That's my point. Marino was 50 yards ahead of the average. For Brees the average went up 50 yards, and he STILL beat it by the 50 Marino beat it by, plus another 40. -EK
