So now, the vaunted "West Coast" offense dwells in Miami.

Thoughts?  Queries?  Comments?

If it gets results, I'll credit Paul Brown with it and not Bill Walsh as a coping mechanism.  Tongue  I do think Miami has some of the skilled players to be successful with this offense.  It really seems to potentially accentuate Marshall's and Bush's skill sets quite well, though.

Firsts things first, gotta change the name to the South Beach Offense

Marshall played in this offense in Denver in his early years, he should be fine. Reggie is built for this offense. Charles Clay could flourish as well. And the blocking scheme the o-line will use actually plays to the strength of Daniel Thomas. Fassano (if he stays) doesn't fit this offense. Bess may struggle some, he will have to adjust his game a bit as well.

I don't see how Bess will struggle?  Doesn't the West Coast strive in spreading the ball around?  Isn't it all about short passes to open up long gains later?  I would think Bess would strive in that.  Either way, I'm excited.

I would think Bess would be one of our better WRs in the west coast offense. He's perfect for quick slants and the like.

Agreed. Re. Bess, SBNation's article on the new system said, "The best thing that could ever happen to a player like Davone Bess is that Joe Philbin came to coach. After averaging 77 catches and 789 yards in 2009 and 2010, Bess only caught 51 passes and 537 yards in 2011, dropping his stats in almost every category. Davone is one of the best slot receivers in the league, and the ball needs to be in his hands. There is no doubt that he will thrive under Coach Philbin’s coaching philosophy." -EK

His stats dropped because his level of play dropped this year. He wasn't very good at times. And Moore was pushing the ball deeper down the field this year. Bad combination for his numbers.

Not saying Bess is bad but his level of play slipped last year and now he is rehabbing a knee injury. His best days may be behind him. Still a good player but not the same. We will see about this offense being the best thing to happen to him. I have my doubts.

Best days behind him? He had a sprained MCL. No surgery, no major setback. Rehab is less than 3 months. Bess posted the 5th highest punt return avg. in the league, so I would hardly say his best days are behind him- he still has speed, and should flourish in a West Coast system. As you pointed out all season, nearly everyone's numbers dipped this year except Reggie's. -EK

Who's gonna play FB?

We don't have a Tom Rathman type FB on the team... I can see Clay as a West Coast TE but, who can be that blocking FB that can also be a threat out the backfield?

Would be nice if we could pick Jermichael Finley up! Grin

Green Bay didn't even have that FB type. Although, I do like the idea of using Clay in that capacity.

I like Clay in that role also... he can run as well as catch!   I don't know if Fasano fits what we need at TE though...

I've heard people talking about we don't have the receiving core Green Bay has but, until Jennings started stepping up Donald Driver was the only receiver on that team people were talking about. I don't remember Green Bay receivers past yrs being mentioned among the best in the league...  I think they play well as a group though.

Damn....time to revise the geography books...as if African countries renaming themselves, or European counties breaking into two isn't enough, now Miami is relocating.

Geez.
