How many Colts will it take to make Shula think it is 1969?

I think Clark is damaged goods at this point.

He may be, if so avoid at all costs then

Exactly. Expecting 1,000 yards out of your tight end on a consistent basis is foolish. It doesn't happen in this league! Clark (assuming he is healthy) has sure hands, can stretch the field, and is a match-up nightmare for opponents.

So what is a realistic expectation? He's only gone over 500 yards twice more in his career. And he's missed a full season's worth of games in the past two years. One great season from a tight end, and two good ones, and he's suddenly a massive upgrade over what we have? Dubious... -EK

Depends on the health & market value. He doesn't have to be a primary TE. Clark provides a potential mismatch. Think of it like this. If Miami were to utilize a 2 TE set, you potentially have a 4 receiver set out of a "run" formation. Just a possibility.

Yes he is a massive upgrade over Anthony Fassano and its not eve close! It's not even a comparison. One is elite (when healthy) the other is a marginal player at best and has done nothing to show he will ever be any better than he already is.

-Fassano gets between 30-40 receptions a year and is lucky to break 450 yards. Maybe 4 touchdowns. MAYBE
-Clark has 2 years of Double Digit touchdowns. When healthy he has caught between 60-100 balls a year and was over the 600 yard receiving mark consistently. Once going over 1,000 yards in a season

Once again you are getting worked up over nothing. NOBODY has said make Dallas Clark the highest paid TE in the league. NOBODY has said break the bank for him. NOBODY has said start cutting guys left and right to make room for Dallas Clark. But Miami should be kicking the tires on him and be talking to him to see if they can bring him in. TE is a huge problem on Miami's offense after QB and if they can fill that void (no matter if Peyton is here or not) with a HEALTHY Dallas Clark....you have to at least TRY and sign him. That's all we are saying. Nothing to get your panties in a wad about!

And I'm saying you're wrong. The "when healthy" comment is why I wouldn't sign him. He's going to get more than Miami has in cap room if they sign Manning and Wayne. IMO Wayne is a better free agent pick up than Clark by a mile. No one here is upset, but apparently you, Mike. You don't HAVE to try and sign him, when there are more pressing areas than TE, you have two young good TE's in Fasano and Clay, and salary cap restrictions make it nearly impossble with other areas. Why anyone would even bring this situation up is silly. Zero chance that he's a Dolphin next year. Bank on that. No one outside of a few people on this board are even talking about it as an upgrade. The national media- and even the local media in Miami- don't feel like he's worth them picking up.  -EK

He was cut less than 24 hours ago, why would anyone be talking about it in the media?  Roll Eyes  This was a surprise move!

And I wouldn't call Fasano "young"....lol! He is going into his 7th year

Keep making shit up though to get outraged about its entertaining.  Because nobody said he would be a Dolphin next year but that they should look into it. But keep getting upset about the stuff you make up in your head...LOL

That's cool. You go ahead and keep believing that anyone who doesn't automatically agree with you MUST be wrong. He won't-and shouldn't be- a Phin. That's the end of it. -EK

You gotta also look at who is throwing Fasano and Clark the ball. Smiley

I never said you were wrong. I said you were getting worked up over nothing and stuff you make up in your head to get worked up over  Roll Eyes

I actually agree with you that Clark probably won't sign with Miami. But you have skipped over that and ignored that just to attack me....because well, that is what you do and your only reason to coming on these boards. All I said is Miami should look into it at least because he is the type of player the Fins need on offense. At least try! And you flipped your F'n lid over it and start twisting my words, making stuff up, and taking everything out of context!

Fassano was a backup with the Cowboys. And as "someone" said on  this board this week about backups, if they were any good they would have been starting on their team. Implying backups aren't any good, and Fasano proves that theory .  Wink

So let's assume that the Dolphins sign all these Colt players (Manning, Wayne, Garcon, Clark, and Saturday).  What happens then?  This totally throws out the idea of building long term success with young guys.  These are a bunch of aging vets that don't have much time left.  If they fail to win a championship with the Dolphins, then the fan base, already pissed off, will go into a frenzy.  They will call for Philbin and Ireland's heads.  Then what coach and GM will come here knowing Ross's reputation?

1) Miami can't sign them all. They can probably sign Peyton plus 1 more. That's all they have the cap room for.

2)Denver on the other hand has $40 mill in cap space and could sign a bunch of those ex-Colts if they want to. And maybe trade for Freeney as well!

3) Miami's "core" is still young. Long, Pouncey, Vontae, Dansby, Marshall, Wake......all are under 30. Dansby and Wake are 30 but you get the point. The core of the team we are building around is very young. You can't go with a total youth movement though and expect to win. you MUST sprinkle in vets and some experience at some point.

Exactly.  You guys don't need Clark.  You have two capable TE's already.    Seems ppl  or one person, wants a 100 catch TE that gets 10+ TD's and 1000yds to boot.  I'm not too sure there a lot of them out there that fits that category.  What you also have is one of the best blocking TE's in the league as well.

Get a top tier qb and start from there.

Jets are talking with Colts about Dwight Freeney trade.

Indy could unload his contract and the Jets get the pass rusher they need badly. Granted Freeny's play has declined in recent years he is still above average and an impact player
