This spurned from the Tebow thread. I find it interesting that some "B" actress leads celebrity giving. If this is the top 30 list from 2011 ... I am also very surprised at how little is given and by so few.

Disappointing that Arod and Jeter aren't there despite their bloated salaries.

I am suspicious of the list.  I am pretty sure Peyton Manning gives more than $342,665 per year, the cut off for the list.  Same with St. Tebow.

BTW #15 should be bolded as well.  As other married couples are and she is married to player in the NFL.

As I read that list, it is categorized by personal donations; therefore, Peyton Manning does not get credit for things that the Peyton Manning Foundation does.  Furthermore, if Gisele and Tom file separately, their donations would also be separate.  With the possible exception of Will and Jada Smith, I can't imagine any other spouse on that list having a reason to file separately.

I would think Joline and Bradd Pitt would be on the list.

On the other end, I heard them talking on the radio that Tiger woods stayed in a resort for a week and was waited on hand and foot. When he checked out, he left a whopping 20 bucks. Have heard that more than once.

Bingo, I thought the same thing...It seems almost every athlete has a foundation, which in the article it stated something about not being able to track that......I also feel like,a name associated, speaking about a cause/charity raises  a lot more money, than what they probably could donate....

My understanding this comes directly from their bank account. This would be like what we donate.

People's tax returns are not public documents.  So that is not how this list came about.

This is complied by a group who keeps track of donations of celebrities .

So donations that flow thru a foundation don't make the list.

Nor are donation that don't make national news.  So if Dan Marino makes a $3 million dollar donation and it makes the sports page of the Orlando Sun, but it doesn't make the LA times or Entertainment Tonight, it might or might not be on the list.  Of course if he makes a donation without holding a press conference it ain't going to be on the list.

So really this is a list of the 30 most generous celebrities who choose to brag about it.

I believe that (certain types of?) charities' tax returns are public.  So rather than looking through individual celebrities' tax returns, you can just look through charities' public tax returns, and get the info that way.

And if you donate anonymously?

Hijack...I couldn't pick her out of a line up,or name the name of one of her songs (both if my life depended on it) I just know the name...but Katy Perry paying for the Prom dress, and tuxes, and or the expenses of the senior prom of the Joplin High school...Is pretty cool in my book...

Not to forget Cheryl Crow auctioning off her vintage car last year,a donating the proceeds to the Joplin Tornado victims

End hijack...
