Western:

Personally:

^^ Maine, not to be "that guy" but you mixed up the Eastern days.  Rangers/Caps is Saturday and Devils/Flyers is Sunday

I agree with you in the West, but I could see both Eastern series going to game 7's again

Eastern:

PHI (#5)  V  NJ (#6)
Philly's offense is scary good... Flyers in 5 games.

NYR (#1)  V  WSH (#7)
Rangers have quality everywhere...on the scoring line, on defense, in goal. New York in 5 games.

Western:

STL (#2)  V  LAK (#8)
The upset train keeps rolling along... After knocking off the 1 seed, the Kings knock off the 2 seed. Kings in 6 games.

PHX (3#)  V  NSH (#4)
I loves me some Pekka Rinne...Nashville in 6 games

Philly vs Jersey - Flyers in 4 games.  F the Devils.  Clarkson is a bitch.

Rangers vs Washington - Rangers in 5 games.  Washington got lucky against the B's

Blues vs Kings - Blues in 5 (See above, re: Washington)

Coyotes vs Preds - Predators in 6, still not a believer in the Coyotes.

I think the second round, somehow, is more lopsided in its matchups than the first round.

I'd like to chime in that the Caps didn't get lucky against the B's.  Better team won.  Caps played flat line hockey and Boston played right into their hand.  Boston had 52 penalty minutes. IN THE ENTIRE SERIES.  For a team who was second in the league in fighting, only behind the Rangers.  That isn't Boston's style.  Boston plays hard.  They control the fore-check, they make you pay when you carry the puck into the neutral zone and they fight.  A lot.  There wasn't one fight in the entire series.

Boston played flat and allowed Washington to control the tempo.  They should have played their style.  The win in Washington only came after Thorty was active and energized the team with his hits and "take no shit" attitude - which finally rubbed off...for a period and a half.  Had Boston played their style, who knows.  They allowed the Caps to run the show.

I guess that's what I mean by "got lucky" in that Boston could have (and should have) wiped the ice with them, but played down to the Caps' level.  I haven't seen much in the way of playoff fighting outside that Pens-Flyers series, so not sure if that's discipline or refs with better bear hugs.  But overall, I thought the Bruins could have played a more physical game and rubbed them out, but instead let Washington hang around too long.

"Letting them hang around" is def something I've heard a lot on the radio lately, which I agree.  Caps also forced the issue by their style of play, it's fairy important to not take away credit from the team who scrapped the last two months of the season to get in the playoffs and then beat Boston.

Past 9 out of 11 Stanley Cup champs haven't made it out of the first round the following year.  That can't be coincidental.

All this said, the Rangers built their current roster with the specific purpose of beating Boston.  Only team in the league with more fighting minutes (by something like four, it wasn't by much), they play as hard as Boston and as gritty. You play the Rangers and know it after.  I watched a lot of the Rangers / Ottawa series and the Sens did the same thing to the Rangers that the Caps did to the B's.  No fights.  Physical play wasn't really there.  Rangers were really off their game.  If the Rangers can't find a way back to who they are, and how they built their team into a winner, the Caps are going to "stick around" this series as well.  This one will come down to Holtby.  Was R1 a fluke, or is he locked in?  The Caps can get gritty as well, but not at the level of the Rangers when they "turn it on."  It'll be interesting to see what happens.

If you had Devils, Coyotes, Kings, and either the Rangers or Capitals in your final four..I would've tested you for every drug under the sun.

I've picked the Kings in both upsets, but gacked most of my picks in the other series...

I'm far from a hockey fan, but this really turns me off about their playoffs.  So far, LAK (the #8 seed) beat the #1 seed 4-1 and the #2 seed 4-0.  Playoff hockey "upsets" are so common that they've been reseeding the NHL playoffs for almost 20 years.

I know there's an argument to be made for how much people love seeing upsets, and that's fine.  But why even bother seeding at all?  Wouldn't it be even more exciting if you had an NHL playoff lottery to determine the playoff pairings?
