What the hell were they thinking? I mean I understand Cousins is an upgrade from Beck and Grossman, but I'd imagine Cousins must be pretty pissed. The Skins lately have been a team who the favorite QB is the one on the bench. I guess its true that those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. Shuler/Headbutt Frerotte ring a bell?

If Cousins is tearing it up in the preseason, and Griffin isn't outclassing him, the fans will be calling for Cousins.

I don't know. I think it was a stupid idea to draft both of them.

What magnifies the absurdity of the Cousins pick is the fact that they've butchered their next two drafts in order to move up to get Griffin.

They created a quarterback congtroversy when they didn't have to.

The Cousins pick was nothing more than a hail mary chance for them to recoup some picks next year. I don't see them giving him equal opportunity as RG.

I think the logic is they gave away so many picks to get RGIII, what they really did was give away all those picks to get a Franchise QB.

So if RGIII is the next Leaf, Mirar, or Jamarcus Russell...they want insurance.

Essentially they didn't give away all of those picks for RGIII, they gave away all those picks for a Franchise QB and they want the 2012 NFL Draft to be remembered as the draft where the Redskins got their franchise QB. SO, if RGIII sucks and Cousins then turns out decent they can point back years later and say we wanted a franchise QB in the 2012 draft, it didn't work out as planned but we still got one from that draft.

I don't agree with the logic they are using, but I see it. They had one mission in this draft, franchise QB and come hell or high water they feel like they will get one. RGIII is the plan, but if it blows up then hopefully Cousins.

I don't see it as that big of an issue.

One was drafted to be the starter, the other the back up. Same deal with Chandler Harnish being drafted by the Colts.

There are two prevailing lines of thought I have heard:

1) WSH drafted him in the hopes of turning him around for better picks in a few years.  This is dumb; RIGHT NOW, the Redskins are short on picks (due to the RG3 trade) and need every warm body they can get.  They should not be wasting picks on hopes for future trades; that's a smart move for a 14-2 Patriots team in 2011 (picking Mallet) but an idiotic move for a bottom-feeder that just gave away a LOT of picks on their franchise QB and need to acquire talent to surround him with.

2) WSH is hedging their bets.  This is even worse; if you weren't sure that RG3 would be a franchise QB, why did you trade away 3 firsts for the right to draft him?  Why would you possibly undermine him by drafting a backup QB in the 4th round for the fans and media to bash you over the head if RG3 has a slow start?

The Shuler-Frerotte draft is one historical example of similar Redskin failure, but let me cite a different example:  Drew Brees.  Drew Brees didn't start to blossom until his 4th year.  With Cousins on the bench, if RG3 struggles, by year 3 there will be a QB controversy (entirely of Shanahan's creation).

Imagine if SF had also drafted Derek Anderson, Matt Cassel, or Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2005.  That would have made the Alex Smith situation worse, not better.

How about Seattle drafting Russell Wilson after signing Flynn??  What if Wilson tears it up in pre-season??

Seattle had the worst draft I have seen in a long time. You draft Irvin in Rd 1 who is undersized and can't even play on 1st down , so many off the field issues that it makes Brandon Marshall blush, and he was just arrested last month. They could have had him easily in Rd 2, maybe in Rd 3 and they take him 1st round. Then Wilson, another guy who safe bet was he wasn't getting picked before Rd 4, maybe not till 5 at the earliest and you take him Rd 3 after you just sign Flynn and already have Jackson.

Either they want Tavaris Jackson gone ASAP or they have buyers remorse on Flynn and are already looking to cut bait with him in 2 years when they can exit his deal and not take a cap hit.

Either way its a bad draft top to bottom.
