Apparently left a note saying that he shot himself in the chest because he wants his brain studied.

That's being refuted right now....@ArmandoSalguero: RT @nytbishop: Officer said #Seau did not leave a note

I was genuinely shocked when I heard the news. He was one of my favorite players in the league and was a class act. I feel terrible for the children that he left behind.

RIP Junior!!!!!

If that is the case and its found out he was suffering from dementia, then you can expect sweeping changes across the NFL and a major crackdown on violent hits.

The guy was never on an injury report while in San Diego but hit very hard.  I think dementia is exactly what happened.

My prayers go out to his family

He once did drive his car off a 50 ft cliff like 2 years ago after he was accused of domestic violence. That's not normal behavior. Either is taking one's life. I think Seau was a "troubled" person and this might not be concussion or head trauma related when the story does finally come out.

It's a sad story either way but I am not so sure this is a "head injury" case. Guess we just have to wait and see.

I'm very sorry to hear about Junior's passing and I wish his family and friends nothing but the best possible condolences.

However, http://deadspin.com/5867720/death-is-stalking-the-1994-chargers
I had no idea any of these guys were dead.  I wonder how many other Super Bowl squads in recent memory incurred this number of untimely deaths.

I hate to sound like a dick, because I really admired Jr, and he seemed to be a great citizen. But... I've personally had 2 very close people in my life commit suicide. I feel it's the most selfish act any person can commit. "I'm sad, boo hoo!" Just seeing how distraught his mother was, should have been a deterent, but this guy has kids as well. He might as well said fuck you too everyone. Now his kids won't have a father figure, or go on a trip with dad, or someone to turn to. They will carry a knife in their heart for years. If you're homeless loser with no family, great. Go drown in the lake. But he damn well knew the pain he would cause, and didn't care. Fuck you Seau!!

the folks at bu are doing some very interesting work on this topic.

they have published reports based on some studies (in particular the penn football player that committed suicide), that cte is not just based on having multiple concussions. in fact, thousands of subconcussive collisions in aggregate can be an issue with respect to cte as well.

head trauma is not just a concussion issue, and it's the dirty little secret the nfl wants to sweep under the rug.

Suicide is not that simple.  Depression is mental illness.

It was so sad to see his family.  Having had to go through that with someone I knew, I sympathize.  It's hard to understand, when coming from a healthy brain.

I'm sure they'll take all the brains they can get.

You read my mind. I feel the exact same way about suicide.

Reports/Rumors coming out that Junior Seau might have killed himself over money issues that led to his depression. He bought a house in 2005 for $3.2 mill. And its value went down very fast. And 1 hour after his house sold at auction for only $1.3 mill Junior killed himself. Many think this was the straw that broke the camels back. Still doesn't explain why he shot himself in the chest and not the head, but this info some think was the back breaking news that pushed him over the edge. We will see, or maybe we will never know. But that's the word beginning to go around.

Here is the details on Junior's house
