Stopped reading when I got to the line, "But none of the others face the weight of history in quite the way Tannehill—the first Dolphins quarterback picked in the first round since Dan Marino in 1983—does in Miami."

Cause yeah, taking over a franchise that has had Johnny U for 16 seasons- 9 of which were Pro Bowl and 3 of which were MVP- and Manning, who had 13 seasons, 11 Pro Bowls and 4 MVPs- that should be a piece of cake for Luck. No history weighing in on him at all.

Why can't these writers just write what is? Why does everything have to be SO over the top dramatic? It's beyond absurdity to write that Tannehill- who likely won't even start a game this year- has the same pressure as Luck, who was taken first overall in the draft and is literally replacing a legend in Manning. -EK

Me too. I knew King immediately flew to Miami after the draft so I've been waiting for this story. Nothing earth shattering but seems to back up everything I've read and heard. I don't think there is any doubt at this point this is his team. It's just a matter of when he gets the keys.

Yep, I read the article at home and needless to day anything from King is gonna be anti-Miami, plain and simple

I love when Cowherd has him on his radio show, he lauds him with such glowing reverence, like he's the foremost knowledge on the NFL.

We will wait and see on Tannehill.  No one knows for sure, but hopefully with a little time, learning the system & backing up Moore, he can come in and become the QB MIA fans have been waiting for.

I must not be too bright. How is this article anti-Miami?

This is the place where quarterback hope goes to die. Can you blame Manning for giving the Dolphins only a cursory look last month before signing with Denver? Since Marino retired after the '99 season—except for a one-year detour to competence with Chad Pennington in 2008—the Dolphins have lurched from Fiedler (Jay) to Feeley (A.J.) to Moore (Matt). They squeezed out a 1--15 season with a Lemon (Cleo). They drafted John Beck 40th overall in 2007 and gave him four starts before dumping him. Two years later they drafted Pat White 44th in a burst of misguided obsession with the Wildcat formation; White threw five passes (completing none) in 2009 and was cut in camp the next year. The last three coaches before current head man Joe Philbin all went down in part because of the QBs they hung their hats on: Nick Saban with Daunte Culpepper, Cam Cameron with Beck, Tony Sparano with Chad Henne.

Then there's G.M. Jeff Ireland. During the final home game, fans hired a plane to fly over Sun Life, towing a banner that read MR. ROSS: SAVE OUR DOLPHINS, FIRE IRELAND. In March about 30 fans protested at the team's practice facility, some carrying signs reading fireland.

In other words, Mr. Tannehill, you are going to have to make up for the sins of a whole lot of people you've either never met or barely know. Good luck.

I think the last sentence pretty much sums it up. As I can only assume this is the negative part ... what's not correct?

Peter King's articles are useless.  Human interest pieces are just to trigger emotion.  Triggering emotion sells but it is still useless.

I pay attention to nothing he says and it is the same with Adam Shein.  They make money off of pressing buttons (good or bad).  At least Peter King takes a bit more balanced approach with the forming of his opinions, but there is no brain power involved.

So if it's not for us then it's against us? It just seems to me to be an informational piece. It's not like we haven't said anything King did.

Wow, after reading some of your comments I was prepared for the worst, but when I read the article, I didn't feel that way at all, in fact I felt really good about what King wrote. No where in there did I see King say that he didn't think that Tannehill would be a great player or that Tannehill would fail. About the worst thing he said was that he was gonna have to make up for a lot of sins by this franchise. What about that is negative? There ABSOLUTELY have been lots of sins by this franchise since '99. Maybe it's a bit unfair to expect Tannehill to be the savior, but on the other hand I think a lot of us here are hoping that he is. Let's get one thing clear, Tannehill doesn't have to be Dan Marino. I don't expect Miami to go 14-2 and Tannehill throw for 48 TD's and 5000 yards in 2013. I'm not expecting that at all, rather I'm just hoping that Tannehill sees the field a little in 2012 and plays well, becomes the starter by the first game of 2013 and is solid if unspecatular and then hopefully by 2014 is really starting to come into his own. That's all I'm hoping for because Miami hasn't even had that since Marino retired. Anything over that is just gravy.

I've changed my mind about the whole Dan Marino thing. I think Tannehill has to be that good or better or he is a failure.

I'm raising my expectations since lowering them for the other bums sure didn't help!!  Wink Cheesy

Not sure if Jonny U was a good example.  Team had to move to a different city and draft Peyton Manning to get folks to start focusing on the current QB instead of the past glory.  So if the Dolphins need to move to LA and Tannehill needs to break multiple records to succeed that is indeed a high standard.

However, I will agree with you on Luck.

Unless the Colts QB has a better year than both the Redskins and Broncos QBs (not just one of them but both of them) there will be a lot of handwringing by the Indy fans.

lol, yep couldn't agree with you more! It's an article in early May for crying loud. Some people want the reporters to take the "POM-POM's" out and be an extension of the Fins PR department with every article or report.

The article is what it is, just a nice little offseason piece. Some people read too much into stuff. They really do!
