This is a driving scenario...
If you have to travel for work, and be somewhere early in the morning.Would you prefer to get up extra early in the morning to drive there,or drive the night before, stay in a hotel/motel?

Say you have a conference, meeting that is minimum 2 hour drive away, that you have to be there at 7 am...Work is will to pay for the hotel/motel,a meal,gas,whatever..

----------------------------------------------
I just went through this,My boss and I left Sunday night, stayed at a motel Sunday night.Made it to our meeting  at 7:30 am,no problems...I hated the idea of getting up 4 am,meet at 5 am,drive two hours in the clothes I intend to wear, hopefully no delays to make it there just after 7 am...Then feel like a zombie all day

Next week we have to go back up there (88.692% chance),but with more people,I've been totally out voted...

I understand the family obligations (only one has them in this case),so I'm not frustrated people for that...Personally,Knowing I have to be awake early,I never sleep well the night before (even in my own bed),and the fear of getting stuck in traffic, act of god, whatever delays me and I'm totally late..

Duing this time of year you can go the night (which can still be daylight) and get there and have a good night sleep in a hotel. I'm with you B, taking a two hour drive to be somewhere at 7:30 AM is the pits. I wouldn't have any sleep at all hardly. The night before is the only way to go in this scenario.

I live approx 2 hours away from where I work, so, it's a daily 4 hour round trip. But it's good. I prefer early morning (not that I have a choice). You have to keep a schedule, but it's really not so bad.

I voted travel the night before.  I agree that you'll get more rest by going the night before and getting a hotel room, especially if the company is willing to pay for it.

An hour and a half is my cutoff point.  If a meeting takes less than that to drive to, I will go early in the morning.  That or more and I overnight it.

Is relocation not an option or is this temporary? I don't think I would never consider driving that far permanently.

One thing to keep in mind is that some people don't sleep well in strange places, like for example motels, so for them they might actually get a better night's sleep in their own bed even if they have to get up a couple hours early.

As far as riding in the car on the morning of the meeting, I would probably dress in some comfortable shorts and t-shirt and take my suit with me and then change once I get to the destination. If you call ahead a lot of times places actually have a place where you can even shower if you like. That's probably the best option for looking as "fresh" as possible.

I understand the sleeping away,I have a hard time, laying in abed, and thinking about who else, what else, what has happened in this bed...I'd rather try to think about anything, than where I'm at...

2 things with this for Me...

1.) Like going to Joplin (right at an hour away for me) for 3:30 Pm meeting,I used to do that ride in comfortable clothes, change into meeting clothes, then back to comfortable clothes..Till...Maybe it's been 2 years ago now,(in my running shoes,shorts,t-shirt,and Cubs hat) Walked from the parking lot to the building, held the door for this group of people...(took some ribbing about the Cubs).I then went to change into my meeting clothes,15 minutes later walk into my meeting, and those same people sitting across the table from me..."hey Cubs fan,you clean up well.." Screwed the pooch with the first impression, couldn't get that moment back...

*2.) Where to change, even the nicest looking gas stations, fast food joint, might have nasty ass bathrooms.I really don't want to want to use the toilet,Let alone strip off down the bare essentials, and change into my nice clothes. Also taking into account, trying to change in a small stall, where someone has recently,or is pinching off a loaf...eww... Finding places to change have been an issue some places I've gone,I'm usually not going to a city where there are bountiful options to change...

*I do change into comfortable clothes on the way back, almost a must.

Again those are problems I've ran into,I'm sure there are other ways... Embarrassed

We'll just have to see. Have a gas efficient car, and a backup car, in the event that something goes horribly wrong.
