I'm going with seriously uncool. No one thinks your 1998 Civic with suicide doors is cool.

I will say this - it depends on how its done.

Overdone rice-burner - seriously uncool

For example:  Overdone graphics, doors and trunks that open weird, sponsorship stickers when no one is sponsoring you, aluminum deck spoiler, while nothing done for performance.

Alternatively, if you are clean, have a few things for increase car performance, rims, sound system, exhaust, suspension, maybe a body kit if done right, practical stuff that has a purpose = Super Cool

I went with "Cool"... Some are uncool (Buddha's Civic with the suicide doors would qualify)...and some are pretty cool (nice rims/wheels, custom paint, etc...)

I voted seriously uncool based on what I pictured in my mind first, which is the overdone version with that horrible sounding muffler.

I admit, I'm could go either way on this on on...

Here in the Midwest,it's a LOT more trucks...

It's redneck mudders,off roaders,jack it up big tires,big motors,light bars,etc,etc -
My very first truck 77 Chevy with a 454 engine (like 4 miles per gallon), 3"-4" lift kit 16" Gumbo Monster Mudders,I had white spoke wheels, which were pretty stock. The Body, cab, bed, etc, looked stock....Alot of that stuff has a special spot in my heart..I like the offroad look,Jeeps,Blazers and stuff like that....Pretty Cool

 - Baja beetles -Cool

- Hoopty mobiles -1974 Cadillac (any huge gas guzzling car from the late 60's to the 80's) with 20 inch rims, with spinners, curb feelers,4 - 12" sub-woofers rattling the vehicle apart as it drives down the road -These are abundant in my neighborhood -Sub-Zero -Kelvin -Seriously uncool.

- The modified Riceburners, drifters, etc, etc -Here they exploded (mainly) after the Fast and the furious movie came out, before then it was mostly the Asian community -  Most of them Look horrible, sound horrible like a Schwinn bicycle with a piece of cardboard in it's spokes...but the idea of modifying  the car to go really fast is pretty cool to me..

- Low Riders - very,very few cars look good lowered,and only a touch.....I hate-Seriously uncool...

- Anything by West Coast Customs - makes me want to puke Seriously un-cool

Here's one that is near and dear to my heart, and probably my deciding factor.....

Restoring old Cars...
full restoration - Bringing it back to the way it rolled off the showroom floor, with very few tweeks - I LOVE it Uber-Awesomeness-Super-Cool

Restomod- Bringing the car back, maybe more modern, but generally the same (Adding a more modern suspension for better ride,Air conditioning,Power Brakes,Power steering,Better brakes, different new color not originally etc, etc. - Super Cool

Redoing Classic vehicles - This is the case with my recent sale of my 1971 GMC pick up.I tried to take the Doctor's motto with it - Don't do any harm.I tried not to do anything that couldn't be brought right back to factory. No cutting the original dash,(wasn't the original engine when I bought it,so changing it,wasn't that big of a deal)No cutting the floor boards to make the seats fit,I made custom brackets so the seats would fit the factory holes.Keep the original lines, even though I removed the trim. The guy that bought the truck, has shaved the door handles, tailgate, torn out the original grill, put a cheap plastic aftermarket, cutting the brackets to make it fit,Cut up the original dash to put a cheap video system in,gonna chop the top of the truck,etc,etc..Are-You-a-Fucking-Batshit-Crazy-Sub-Zero -Kelvin -Seriously uncool.

I know Let it go I keep telling myself, not my truck,None of my business, but why buy that truck to fuck it up so badly...

(I think observant board members might be able to tell how much this gets under my skin,by me just actually dropping F-bombs..Sorry)

Sorry for ranting...I think the final Image Brian posted,is still pretty cool....I think it's a teeter -totter issue for me,It can go from Cool to Seriously uncool really fast.

I agree with most of what I have read here. Over the top mods are ridiculous but the standard stuff that makes your vehicle look good is pretty cool.

On my Chevy I have a 2 1/2" leveling lift (nothing crazy just a nice clean look) some 20's with off road tires, a billet grill, a couple of cusotm chrome bowties, and a sprayed in bedliner. Nothing over the top just a nice clean look that makes my truck look a little different than every other chevy truck on the road. This is the main reason I went with the silver this time because every jackass in this state seems to have a crew-cab white chevy pickup on 20's. Mine looks a little different but not so ridiculous that it looks bad!!!

Some things I may add is a little taller tire since I have the extra room with the leveling lift and a performace chip to get the most out of the 410 horses under the hood.

I'm a big fan, but I'm biased, as I used to enter car shows.  (I didn't have anything super crazy.)

I'm more of a fan of modifications that look like they could be a stock package, but aren't.

^^ you speak in past tense.....?

My previous car, which Spider-Dan is well acquainted with, I would work on every weekend, I added so many upgrades everywhere, and it was nice and clean, and looked like no other car on the road, but nothing crazy.  My current car, I have upgraded to 18" wheels, but that's it.  I haven't had time or money to dive into anything, but there are a few upgrades I'd like to look into...

I think that this really depends on how it's done, as was said earlier.  Customizing your car to a way that you like it is cool or functional.  Over-customizing it to show off is incredibly douchey.
