I wrote about this back in March that if there was ever a team that NEEDED to be on Hard Knocks to re-shape its image and chance a national perception its this years Miami Dolphins.

I am glad the organization (football side and front office side) came together and agreed it would be a wise thing. This is good for this franchise moving forward!

I am very happy with this news today

Not happy at all about this.  I've always been of the mindset that what goes on in the locker room stays in the locker room.  It's not for the public to see or hear about.

And for those who are stoked about this, let's just say a lot of other teams turned this opportunity down before the Dolphins accepted.  They were not HBO's first choice.  And that pretty much sums up where the Dolphins stand in the NFL's pecking order.  After what's gone down the past few seasons, it's rightfully deserved.

Every year a bunch of teams turn Had Knocks down. Every year they struggle to find a team. This isn't news!

Being a 1st choice? Who cares. Just remember that Vince Lombardi was the Packers 3rd choice when they hired him to be head coach back in the day. So whenever someone says so-n-so wasn't their first choice, I just laugh and think of that.

I also firmly believe some of you don't watch Hard Knocks but for clips and highlights. It's a show where literally nothing happens. You watch a bunch of scrub free agent rookies fight for a roster spot. You see the guy walk to the players and tell them to bring their playbooks moments before they get cut. You see an outing where the team goes bowling or to a pool hall for some "bonding."  And you see the kitchens in the homes of a couple guys you don't really care about as they talk about their home life. Aside from Rex Ryan saying the "F" word about 50 times in a 20 second time span once a few years back, what controversial thing has ever come out of Hard Knocks? Seriously? Name it....I will wait.

Nothing ever happens on this show. A couple rookies get tied to the goal post and sing some songs. You sit in on a couple coaches meetings where not much of anything important is ever said. You get players mic'd up for some meaningless preseason games.

It's a show where not a whole hell of a lot happens.

It's indicative of the circus mentality Ross has brought to this team.

Every team I've ever seen on Hard Knocks, I've ended up liking....or at the very least, sympathizing with.  ...even the Jets, as disgusting as it sounds.

Plus, all this crap about distractions and "what happens in the locker room" sounds like it's coming from people who haven't actually watched the show.

Hard Knocks highlights players who are going to be 3rd string guys or get cut, for the vast majority.  It's mostly about what it's like to be on the bubble in camp.  There will be some subplots about bigger name guys, but the heart of the show isn't really about the Xs and Os of football: It's a drama about the little guy trying to make it in the NFL.  Then, they throw in a few pranks and jokes that make you really like the guys and you have your show.

I have no doubt that this show will help with the image of this team, not only with fans that will help get TV exposure, but more importantly with free agents around the league.  This is GREAT news for this organization and something we sorely, sorely need.

Every Dolphins fan these days questions every single move the team makes.  If this show does nothing else but re-unite the Dolphins fan base with the team, rather than the constant protesting and second guessing, its a win.

Amen.  Although, it isn't quite all of the fans (but close).

The downside on this is very minimal. We have already let them know it isn't and X & O of football show. We have already let them know the show does not put the teams in negative light. We have already let them know that multiple teams have had successful years after that training camp. I think the negativity around this just confirms who the consistent complainers are.

Had a thought...

Wasn't Carl Petterson with the Chiefs when they did hard knocks?  I could imagine he would have been able to give ample insight into what it would be like for the coaches/players/execs.

Herman Edwards seems to be cool with it...

http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2012/05/30/herm-edwards-hard-knocks-is-harmless-fun-not-a-distraction/

Don't give me a bunch of crap about how Edwards is no longer a coach either.  If anyone should have a problem with the show it would be someone who did the show and is no longer in the league.  The fact that he has no problems with it tells me it really is a non-issue from a distraction standpoint.  The fact that Edwards is not an HC anymore has nothing to do with Hard Knocks.

If it were a distraction, the show would be off the air.

If after 4 seasons, teams thought it was a problem, no one would allow HBO into their locker room.  Its in HBO's best interest to stay out of the way.  If its a distraction to this team, then these players are too easily distracted and lack focus.  It would be a problem with the team, not with HBO.

I disagree.  I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with doing the show, but I do have a problem with doing the show after the most embarrassing offseason I can remember since becoming a Dolphins fan.  The move reeks of flailing desperation and a lack of direction.
