Thinking it is one thing but making a prediction when you won 6 games the previous year is another. I just don't get the love for Miami's D- what you call one of the better defenses. They were middle of the pack at best. Yeah they ranked 3rd in run D, but who cares? It's a passing league. They can stop something that no one does? Big deal. Against the pass they were 25th. And they may have been 6th in points allowed, but they were in the bottom 5 in points allowed in the fourth quarter. That's not a defense that needs its players predicting SuperBowl. It's a defense that needs its players working hard and not saying anything.

And that actually makes my point. Points allowed is really the only statistic defensively that ends up mattering.  The Patriots ended up in the Superbowl and had the worst defense in football.

Yep! And the Fins had the 6th best defense in points allowed in the entire league.

And for the record Dansby didn't "predict" anything. Saying they have the players and coaches and if everything comes together they can win the AFC  isn't "predicting" anything. Saying he expects to win, jesus christ why play the games if you don't "expect to win"?!  Once again reading way too much into things and twisting words and taking things way out of context.

Who cares. At least someone on the team has a positive outlook.

Um no... If you're going to say "only" one statistic matters is wins- of which Miami had 6.

Mike no one took anything out of context. "As a team I'm expecting us to win the AFC period. Point blank." How is that NOT a prediction?? If Marshall had said this you'd be making big time shit about it. Don't even backpedal from that. I know Dansby's your boy, and you've been carrying the jocks for the overrated D all year, but take off those glasses that only allow hate for the offense and be real- Dansby hasn't don't jack since he got to Miami to say he's the best LB in football or to say he expects a Superbowl spot. You keep asking what I expect him to say, but I've already told you: NOTHING. No one else one a 6-10 team is talking SuperBowl to the media. The guy needs to shut up and start earning that big contract he got, rather than disappearing in the fourth quarter all year. -EK

Dude, I get your "keep your mouth shut and play" mentality..but this is SUCH a non story.  It WASN'T a prediction at all.  I prediction would be what Brandon Marshall said last year about the Dolphins and 49ers playing in the Super Bowl.  All Dansby did was say what everyone else is thinking each and every season

this is stupid

all this is, is a shot to make fun of (yet again) the Dolphins.  Because Miami isn't expected to do anything, this story gets published to keep the LOLphins image alive and well.

If Jerrod Mayo comes out and says the same thing..it doesn't get published.  Because New England is EXPECTED to win the AFC.  Same thing if James Harrison, Ray Lewis, or any other player on a contending team said this.

Look, the fact remains that every player should have this mentality..if you don't then get out of the league

"I'm expecting us to win," is NOT a prediction? That's the very definition of prediction. I just don't get the bias here. THIS is a non-story, but Marshall- who doesn't even play here anymore- saying something about Miami's QB situation somehow IS a story and is important enough that the Marshall haters here can start a thread about that? Consistency??? -EK

Simply put. "I'm expecting us to win" is a goal. Not a guarantee. I expect to be retired by age 65, is a goal. I'm going to be retired, is an expectation. I will be, is a guarantee. An expectation does not, a guarantee make.

Replace Dansby with Rex Ryan (Oh wait that's happened) or anyone else despised by the massess and he's an idiot. EKnight is right.

I think that's because Rex has said pretty stupid things that never came out. Didn't he guarantee that the Jets would win a super bowl? In any case, I'm happy with his optimism, and while I would rather him not say anything, it's a non-story.

Gotta agree with MikeO.  Positive comments from a player @ what? a fishing derby?  It's not like the guy is going around town bragging to everybody.  If this was during week 2 or 3 of the season and he was playing like crap it MIGHT mean something.  As it is, the story in its full context is something you would expect to hear from 75% of the NFL players.  Much ado about nothing.
