On the topic of QB's in camp I ran across this interesting quote/observation today in the Herald from Sean Smith.

Cornerback Sean Smith told WQAM's Joe Rose that Ryan Tannehill's zip on his passes "is something that stands out when you watch the quarterbacks. The ball comes out fast with a lot of force. He's making all the right checks.”

Awesome, drafted another qb with no touch.

Typical for some people.  If I recall correctly, another guy who threw like that was Brett Favre

How did you get he has no touch from that? Huh

One thing is for sure:  if Matt Moore is our starting quarterback on opening day, we are in trouble.

Moore went 6-3 last year. If he'd started every game, that projects to a 10 win season. I don't get the hate for the guy. 10 wins equals playoffs and a massive step forward from what Miami has done for the past decade except for one fluke season with a gimmick offense. -EK

No he did not.  He went 6-6 as a starter and with him at the helm, this is what happened:

- Blew a 14 point lead with five minutes remaining against Denver

- Blew a fourth quarter lead against the Giants because suddenly they couldn't move the ball

- Blew a tight game against Dallas because they kept settling for field goals and Moore kept taking sacks

- Went interception crazy against New England causing the defense to be on the field almost the entire third quarter and blowing a 17-0 halftime lead

- Kept settling for field goals against the Jets and eeked out a win despite a dominating performance by the defense.

Fact is, they win those four close losses, they're 10-6 and in the playoffs.

And 0-1 in a game that he came on with 6 minutes remaining in the first quarter of a scoreless game and when he came in Miami was driving and in fact scored a TD on the drive that put them up 7-0. He could have won this game just as easy as any game that he started.

Fact is that Miami was 6-7 with Moore at the helm.

I totally agree with you and thought Moore did an exceptional job despite no training camp and being thrown in at the last minute when Henne got hurt.

I don't put the blame all on Moore for the losses Landshark mentions for these reasons:

1. The team gave up over 50 sacks which is close to a franchise high and 2nd highest in the NFL. I sat Sunday after Sunday and watched Colombo stand there like his feet was in cement and get beat to the outside and seeing Matt get hit in less than 3-4 seconds.

2. The loss to Denver was on special teams. If the Fins recover (hold on to) the onside kick, they win.

3. N.E. came out in the 2nd half with a hurry up, no huddle offense hitting Welker and the TE's. The D had no answer, not to mention Clemons blows the coverage and misses the tackle on Welker for a 95 yd. TD.

4. How is it Moore's fault that Sparano was so conservative he kept going for FG's? That should not surprise anyone. We all watched it for 4 miserable years!

Landshark- It's not Moore's fault that Miami had a bottom five in the league defense in the fourth quarter. If your QB gives you the lead late, and you can't hold onto it because the defense gives up TDs instead of FGs- or even (SHOCKER)- stops the opposition from scoring at all, that's the over rated Ds fault, not Moore's. Fact is, the D couldn't hold leads against Cleveland, NE, or Houston and Moore never saw the field in those games. Suppose that was his fault too? Miami's porous secondary cost the Phins at least 6 games last year, but you want to point the finger at Moore- who didn't even play in half of those. Yeah... That makes sense. -EK

EK, what about the games that Moore did play in?  You know, the ones that Landshark just listed?

Miami's quarterbacks, since Dan Marino, are the reason we invaded Iraq.

ALL OF THEM.

Matt Moore = okay at best.  Personally, I'm done with okay at best.  Aren't the rest of you?

Which is why some of us don't see a lot of difference between what Henne did and what Moore did.

I'm on board but it does not change the fact that finding a better than OK QBs is harder than saying just replace him because he is OK at best. I'm not sure any of our current QBs rate any better than OK at best. Let the best one of the OK win.
