Tannehill worked a lot with the 1st team today. He did lots of good things but still made some rookie mistakes as expected.  Reports were he made several sharp throws and throws the deep ball very well. Hit on a lot of nice plays and was reading the defense as it should and made all the right adjustments.

He did get picked off on an endzone JUMP BALL and in the 2 minute drill he was picked off as well. Plus he holds on to the ball too long, something all rookies do at first. But the good outweighed the bad for at least today working with the starters. Philbin said he is seeing lots of progress and its not fair to say he won't be ready this year.

Which I read Philbin's quote as code for he ain't starting Week 1 but once our season is shot he is taking the field.

Nice tweet from Omar today about Philbin ...

OmarKelly - I'm truly amazed at how honest and candid Joe Philbin is. He doesn't duck or dodge, or sugar coat any subject (ie..John Jerry's weight

If I've ever rooted for a coach it's him.

^^^ Seems like a good guy. He and his wife went through the worse thing any parent can go through and that is burying a child.  I really hope he can find success in Miami and bring some good times into his life after what his family had to go through last year.

Don't read too much into that quote as he clarified that what he was saying is that he wouldn't tell Tannehill that because 1 injury or 2 and he might be the starting QB and then what you do tell him? But I agree with you that I think Philbin thinks he could be ready to go at some point in the season, just when that will be won't be determined for awhile, but I gotta believe that once Miami is out of the playoff hunt he'll try to get Tannehill on the field even if it's just to give him some playing time.

Good mentality to treat the rest of your games like preseason games once you're out of the playoff hunt.

Tannehill needs all the reps he can get.

And once out of it they can ease Tannhill in too. They don't have to start him each week and let him get his brains beat in for 4 quarters. They could start Garrard/Moore and give Tannehill a couple series in the first half and maybe let him play more in the 2nd half of games. He can come in as a "relief pitcher" so to speak to start and work his way into being the full time starter after a few weeks. Lots of teams are doing more and more of this of late.

Miami has that Thursday night game in Buffalo right before Thanksgiving. After that they have 10 days off, if they are out of it by then I could see them then making the switch to Tannehill with that extended time inbetween games.

The problem with being out of the playoff hunt is that so many teams are mediocre that you almost never are out unless you just really tank it.

That and plus Miami's schedule is weak this year. Get the NFC West and AFC South with some really bad teams we are playing. So, we might not be out of it till December. The Fins could be floating around .500 and still "technically" alive for that last wild card spot.

That just means the fans will probably be calling for Tannehill way before the coaches are willing to. What am I thinking? I can take probably out of the equation.

The Fans can call for him all they want, but this staff isn't stupid like some past staffs we have had. They will handle Tannehill with soft gloves knowing what is on the line here (aka their jobs since they hitched their wagon to Tannehill)

I would love to one day hear a coach or whatever, actually admit to putting in a player/qb before he thinks he's ready in order to appease fans. That'd take a lot alcohol boy I tell ya.

Beck went in way before Cameron was ready but that had more to do with both qbs going down. Remember, they had planned on sitting him the entire first year and as such, he didn't get many reps before his number got called.

I don't think that is happening with Tannehill. I think he is being groome to cone in as soon as it makes sense.
