I just watched some footage of the Dolphins receivers from last yr.  I went back and watched the footage after watching a Finsider interview with Mike Sherman.  In the interview he spoke about how happy he was with the receivers we have...  In looking at the footage I saw instances where Devon Bess and Hartline were open and were not targeted or thrown to as a 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th option.  I watched one vid were Bess was 1on1 with a lb chasing him and Matt Moore eventually came back to him on his 3rd or 4th read.

If he had hit Bess early there was at least 20 yds of open field for Bess to get YAC but, because he was a dump off by the time Moore came back to him the play gained about 8-10 yds.  It's funny how things work... Henne looked for Bess too much at times and Moore not enough!

I'm excited for this season because we have enough tools on offense to make this and exciting yr.  I think the offense will surprise us (in a good way) this yr.  I'm not sure we have the talent to win many games but, we have enough talent to put up some points with mismatches!

Dolphins WR's aren't great by any means but they are solid. All comes back to QB play. A quality QB makes the WR's look better and puts them in better positions to succeed.

True and not true. True because a QB with good vision and knowledge of a system should be able to find a WR. Not true, because a WR like Marshall would allow a Bess to be open more often. I believe a good corps of receivers that run effective routes with a QB with good vision can work. But until they prove they can pull it off, they're in trouble.

I think a lot of this is true but all comes down to the QB... I think at times last yr Moore tried to force some throws instead of taking what the defense gave him.  My case and point the play I spoke of where Bess was a 3rd or 4th option... had he taken what they gave him initially... it could have been a big play!

But by the time he did come back to Bess a safety had floated over to help cover the play...  You have to make throws like that!  He was looking 20+ yds down field when he had a guy with room underneath for a big play.  It almost looked like the reception Welker had on us... there was no one underneath to cover Bess and everyone had their backs turned.

Pennington would have made that throw... Henne prolly too!   I don't condem Moore for looking for a big play down field but, you have to see that mismatch and exploit it!  There were times last season where Marshall wasn't on the field and plays where there as well!

The best year the Fins have had in years was 2008 and that WR corp was god awful to say the least.  Ginn, Bess, Hagan, Camarillo. And Pennington made it work!!

Comes down to QB play. Quality QB can make WR's better. Period

You could guess that Bess won't be covered by linebackers this year.  Someone is going to have to step up as a star from this WR corps, and I suspect Bess will have that chance.

I agree with what you're saying Mike, but just for arguments sake and taking it a step further..there was no true number 1 WR in that group..which I think will work to the team's favor.  Going along with the original post, Marshall was the first read everytime, now he's gone and the "number one WR" should be whoever is open!!
