They call Miami a messed up franchise but Seattle has the Fins beat by a mile

-First they sign Braylon Edwards now they are flying T.O up for a visit/workout and some reports say they already have a contract drawn for him

-They use a mid first round pick on a guy who wasn't supposed to go until Round 3 or 2 most likely and who oh yeah, has a ton of off the field problems and was in trouble weeks before the draft itself. And who is a player who can only play on 3rd down or in passing downs in the NFL. He has a limited game and is a one dimensional player.

-Then ya got the whole Matt Flynn/Tavaris Jackson/Russell Wilson thing.

I actually think Pete Carroll is a halfway decent coach but he has some strange ways of doing business.

This isn't me looking to start an argument with Mike, but honestly, how different is this from what Miami did?
-Miami worked out Edwards too, and I read rumors they were going to offer a contract, but he liked Seattle more. Then they sign a guy who got 15 catches in 15 games last year and whose numbers were WORSE than TOs when they both played in Cincy two years ago.
-Phins used a top 10 pick on a guy who was a projected second rounder as well, and while he certainly wasn't a character issue guy, he's likely not going to get much field time this year and there were many questions about him overall because he only played 19 games at QB.
-Didn't Miami chase Flynn...and Peyton...and now you have the whole Matt Moore/David Garrard/Tannehill thing.

I don't see a marked difference between the two, but Philbin and Co are geniuses and Carroll is a poor NFL coach? This sounds like sour grapes over Carroll not coming to Miami a few years back. -EK

1) Working out a player and signing them are two different things

2) Who called Philbin a "genius"??

3) Tannehill was a late 1st early 2nd round prospect at the most important position in the NFL, QB. And has no history of off the field issues. Seattle used a 1st round pick on a 2nd-3rd round rated player who isn't an every down player and who is one dimensional. Oh yeah, he has a laundry list off off the field issues that make Brandon Marshall blush!

3) "Chasing Flynn" and actually signing him, once again....TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!

Sorry, don't see any similarities.

Philbin has been routinely praised on this board for his offseason- by you as well as others. Flynn was offered a contract and declined it. Miami did more than chase the guy- they actually offered him a contract. I get the off the field issues with the draft pick, but risk is risk, and reaching as much as Miami did for Tannehill is a greater risk for the exact reason you said- QB is such an important position. Again, how is bringing in TO any worse than bringing in Chad Johnson? The whole point of your thread was what a bad move that is, but it's on par with signing Johnson. IMO, Seattle is no worse in their moves than Miami. -EK

1) Being praised for a move here or there and being proclaimed a "genius" are 2 different things. Nobody has said Philbin is a "genius"

2) I have praise Carroll as well for some of the things he has done in the past. But this offseason has been odd. Sorry. Just an observation. And its NOT just TO. I listed about 4 or 5 things that make the whole offseason odd for him and Schneider up in Seattle.

3) On Flynn, when you offer a guy a contract and he declines it and you don't offer another deal or to give him more money, that isn't "CHASING".... Roll Eyes  That's wanting a guy at a price, and when he said no they said OK and moved on. If they offered him 3 or 4 contracts each with more $$$ and he declined them all, THAT is chasing! Miami didn't chase!

4) TO was begging a judge last month not to lock him up in jail because he hasn't paid child support in god knows how long. He signed with the AFL/IFL whatever the league is called this week and refused to play road games and was fired. He was only making $400 a week anyway but needed it cause he is broke. He is a walking nightmare of a person right now and you want to compare him to Ochocinco? Really?

And NOBODY said Seattle is "worse" than Miami. You missed the entire point. That Miami is perceived as this messed up franchise but in reality you can make a case for Seattle being even more messed up with some of the actions they have taken.

P...S...Seattle haven't even signed TO yet so until they do I am not even going to continue this discussion of you just trolling for an argument. It was a simple post and observation I had on Seattle which you found a way to "derail" into in anti-Tannehill and anti-Philbin.

I got the point entirely- I just disagree with it entirely as well. The fact that people are more willing to go play in Seattle (ie, Edwards and Flynn) coupled with the fact that they didn't chase Manning only to have him make them look like a laughing stock, after having the same thing happen with several coaches over the past few years, indicates to me that Miami is still far more screwed up. -EK

They didn't chase Manning because Manning REFUSED to meet with them.  Roll Eyes

So getting your HOF QB to contact Manning because you truly were that desperate- that's not chasing him? /Thread. -EK

You said Miami chased Flynn. Gave up on that argument? Now we are moving onto Peyton because you were proven wrong on Flynn? Ok, we can go there since you are changing the debate mid-way as you always do.

No its called due diligence and doing your job. If as an owner and/or gm, and one of the best QB's of all time is available and you aren't doing everything possible to get him then you are a fool. Miami tried, they failed. They  moved on. That doesn't make them a joke. It's just business.

Oh, and calling in Marino...it worked! Peyton met with Miami. At least they got face time and a chance to sell themselves. More than Seattle can say!

Miami chased them BOTH! That was my point- I included it in the first response. They both declined and Peyton (by your own admission) didn't even want to meet. Ergo, Miami = still more screwed up than Seattle. No one wanted to play or coach here for the past few years. Meanwhile, Seattle lands the biggest free agent coach at the time in Carroll and the second biggest free agent QB this year in Flynn. You're not really this blind are you? -EK

Whatever you say Fireman EK

Seattle offers more money for Flynn (mind you he might not even start for them and they still drafted a QB after they signed him). And they are a great and a smart franchise everyone wants to play for and Miami is chasing him and a joke..lol. Yep, Miami didn't spend big bucks on a guy who can't beat out Tavaris Jackson...lol Seattle offers Braylon Edwards a contract and Miami doesn't and Miami is a joke.  It has nothing to do with the money, its just you want to pile onto Miami.

Don't get your logic.  You are truly Fireman EK. Super-Jets fan/Miami Hater Fireman Ed's little brother.

Believe what you want in your own reality.

Yes, MIA offered Flynn a contract.  Apparently, it was not a particularly lucrative deal for him.  But seeing as how MIA went out and got Garrard anyway (even though they drafted Tannehill), offering Flynn a contract doesn't necessarily mean that they thought he was the answer, either.  It just means that they thought he would be a better option than Moore (or possibly Garrard).
