At the end of the day, she can ask for whatever she wants; it's the place of the divorce court to determine what she gets. And if Chad continues his current stance ("I would never say anything bad about my wife"), then it's her word against... well, nothing, and the judge would have no reason not to grant her request.
If it comes out that she hit him first (which is not unthinkable, given her
violent history), then maybe there's an argument to be made. But barring something along those lines, she is perfectly entitled to stick him with the attorney fees.
