So Jeff Ireland tells the Miami Herald that the reason why he got less back than what he paid for Marshall and Davis were because of character issues.

Really??  Then why the fuck did you acquire these guys in the first place??

Well, remember that pick was made in the Parcells era where he was pulling rank on picks. Like he pulled rank on Pat White. And Long over Ryan. So, something to consider. Ireland may have had nothing to do with it. Maybe he did, but he might not have either. We will never know.

Plus, Vontae's brother was arrested early this year for murder after he beat to death an old man by smashing him in the head with a hammer repeatedly. And some say it has taken Vontae to a dark place, not a good place.

On Marshall the whole organization was hood-winked. They bought into Brandon's message of clean slate, moving closer to home, new beginning. Obviously it was all BS. But they tried and got burned.

That's a complete BS cop out. Character issues? Really? He didn't resign after the Dez Bryant incident. Granted Dez hasn't done himself any favors. But, C'mon man.

So we sold low on Vontae because his brother killed somebody?

He was the one who signed Brandon Marshall.

I have to wonder outloud if Ireland is on drugs and where I could get such a substance that would make one so delusional and still keep his job.

No because off the field issues in Vontae's life have effected him mentally in a non positive way. Combine that with showing up out of shape and not listening to his coaches and its a disaster for him.

I don't get some of you guys. You come here everyday and say Miami's secondary sucks and they can't cover. So they actually get a 2nd round pick, probably a high 2nd round pick for a guy in a unit most of you say sucks, and you are upset. If the secondary sucks why are you upset they are selling off pieces of this unit?

Because the secondary will suck even worse now.  And Ireland doesn't know his ass from his elbow so will now use the 2nd pick on some piece of shit player who will be out of the league in 3 years.

I'm not upset. Vontae has been overrated his entire stay in Miami. I was over him the day he claimed that he and Smith were the best corners is football. That was right before Brady burned Miami for 500 passing yards. IMO, this is the best offseason move Miami has made. -EK

We have been a 3rd place or tied for last place team in the AFC East with Vontae. I am sure we can do the same without him! It's not like this move is gonna knock the Fins out of the playoffs people!

This is not the first time you have made this statement.

Using this logic, why not also get rid of Jake Long and Cameron Wake?  I mean, we can finish third without them, too.

We sold low on vontae? News to me. A week ago, people were wetting themselves at the thought of getting a 2 for him...

You're right. This move won't keep the Dolphins out of the playoffs. It won't put them in either. This GM has a worse track record than Davis, yet he's still there. Giving up on players doesn't build character either. You know what kills morale in a locker room? Bad management. Players were already upset with Chad Johnson being cut. I'm not justifying that. But, players see that. Was Vontae the best corner in the league? No. But he was one of the better ones. He had the most talent/potential of anyone in the secondary. At some point they are going to have to build around something. And moves like this, don't show that. Its not so much who was moved, as why they were moved. Character issues? Really? I can give him Marshall. But not Davis.

As long as Ireland is drafting people, there is no way I can say this trade makes sense.

I don't buy it.

Vontae is lazy. He doesn't work hard. That's why he was traded.

Additionally, Phbin is far more about character guys than Sparano was. This seems to be another instance of needing guys on his page, rather than inheriting marginal talent.

Do we have a link to Ireland saying anything about "selling low"? I have a hard time believing Tommy's paraphrasing.

I would also like to jump in and say I hate these terms floating around this offseason, low-balling, selling low, etc. Miami did not low ball Flynn, we should recognize that by his performance in Seattle. If anything, we likely overbid on him. As for selling low on Marshall & Davis, I'm happy with the trades. Things and players are known to devaluate. Just because you paid X price for it does not mean it has the same value anymore.

What did we get for Jason Allen?  What did we get for Jamar Fletcher?

Both of these guys were first round corners.  Still think we sold "low" for Vontae?

I don't think we sold "low" on Vontae, a high 2nd round pick will be as useful as he would be this year.  Heck it may help the Fins lose a couple games so the Fins pick higher on their own picks.  Marshall on the other hand did go low, but I get what they are trying to do.
