Just got this text. Sun Sentinel Dolphins: Dolphins-Jets local telecast in jeopardy due to lagging ticket sales

Only 53,000 people last week. Jets game usually is a good seller but do is opening home game. I wonder who will buy these ticket?

Funny cause I tried to buy tickets and the only ones I could find were lowers or in the $100-plus price range.  Sorry, can't afford that.

From the looks of Ticketmaster, I'd estimate about 10% of the seats are unsold.

Probably should just go and get a ticket outside the stadium for pennies on the dollar. Once inside you can sit anywhere. Lord knows there will be enough empty seats.

Just got word from a Facebook friend who is going to the game that it has been sold out and will be on TV.

I guess the Steelers spanking the Jets really hurt sales of tickets to the Jets fans for their southern home game.

No you still look foolish and silly for the stance you took last weekend because you fail to accept basic facts. And such minor facts that have no real bearing on anything.  Season Tickets only represent about HALF (slightly less really) of seats in the stadium when it comes to Miami currently (other teams are different). There starting point was low, so the fact they got a small bump this offseason (aside from being non-news) isn't surprising. Really it could only go up the number. So season ticket sales can be UP and they can still have trouble selling tickets. Nobody said Miami's ticket situation was good. The simple point that they increased sales by a measly 6,000-8,000 is just that. A simple point which you fail to recognize and be 100% wrong about for some unknown reason. Not to mention they sold MORE tickets this week than they did last week because if they didn't they wouldn't have asked for an extension because you only do that when you are close to selling out.

Brian,
Keep an eye on this site.  Last week I bought section 139 on Friday night for $60 a piece. They have cheap seats now but if you wait you can get better seats for the cheaper. It's the much easier, friendlier scalping solution.

You just don't get it......

How can ticket sales be UP this year, when as you admit that they were starting from a low point.

Truth is, there ARE less season ticket holders this year, than last year EVEN WITH the extra bump after the draft.

Get a clue dude, and do the math.  Cool

That is 100% incorrect and the facts back it up. I (nor did anyone else say) ticket sales were up overall. Just SEASON TICKETS SOLD got a small bump and are UP!!!! It's a fact. You choose to ignore it. You choose to be wrong!

You gave up your seats and want to feel vindicated in some way thinking everyone did too. When in reality overall there was a small bump. Even with the bump ticket sales still stink but its a bump nontheless.

I don't know if ticket sales are up, down or the same. All I know is when I watch a game in Miami on TV I see a bunch of Orange seats. I honestly wonder if Miami is a good "football city". I know everyone likes a winner, but gesh!

It could also be $$$$. I forget the latest figures for a person to go game, get a ticket, hot dog, beer and a hat, but it was a couple of hundred.  Here is the cost for a family of 4.

Almost 20,000 empty seats last week. That's pretty bad regardless of how many tickets were sold.

I am one of those orange seats.

I was a season ticket holder for like 6 years.  Dave, Fau and I used to go every Sunday.

Then they raised the prices, made our seats into "premium" seats and pushed us out of our seats that we had for all those years (as well as took away a game that they played in London that season).  So I didn't renew.  But I still went to 2-3 games each season by buying single-game tickets.

A few years later, I bought season tickets again.  I got back close to my old seats but 1 row higher.  This time it was just me and the wife.  Again, went every Sunday.  But again, gave them up.

It cost me nearly $1000 for any type of decent seats (for 2 seats).  Now, I can't even afford to go to a single game because it would cost me over $200 for that 1 day (at single game rate).  Sorry, I have a nice TV, and its free.  Even if I spend $50 on wings and beer at a sports bar, its still better.

The worst part is that its not fun.  For nearly 2 seasons, they didn't win a single home game.  I'm DEFINITELY not paying that kind of money to feel miserable and waste my entire Sunday baking in the sun.

It just doesn't make economical sense for me to go to games anymore.  I have better things to spend my money on.  And that's the primary driving factor.  I'd love to go again (like this weekend), but at this point in my life, I have to prioritize my spending.  Who knows, maybe I might get season tickets next season (when I didn't waste my sports budget on crappy Marlins tickets).

(now I'll wait for people to tell me that I'm not a real fan, and that the Dolphins have the lowest ticket prices in the league)

edit to add - Another reason why I hate going to these games is because no one else goes.  Being a minority in your own stadium is the worst feeling ever.  Going to a game with 40,000 Steelers fans, when you're supposed to be the home team, is miserable.  Especially when that home team loses.  No one wants to pay hundreds to be miserable.  In the end, a winning product will bring the fans back.
