I have two examples:

My brother bought a car.  He customized everything he wanted and worked out a deal.  So, the dealer said "OK.  I have the car you ordered, exactly as you ordered it, but I have to ship it here.  OR, I can give you this one on the lot, which is exactly the same except it comes with this one additional feature.  To save me the hassle of shipping the other car, I will give it to you for the same price."  My brother said "sure".  The feature is that you don't have to put the keys in the locks or ignition to open the doors or start the car.  So long as you are next to the car or in in, the car recognizes that you have the keys.  He said that it is super convenient to not have to get your keys out of your pocket at the grocery store or what have you.  You just walk up to your car, get in and go.  Now, he would've never bought that feature, but now that he has it, he says that next time he will definitely pay to get it.

For me, I lived in my old place where the toilet seats didn't slam closed.  They had some kind of pneumatic hinges that slowly lowered the lid.  Who cares, right?  But I got into a habit of not closing the lid carefully.  You just knock it down and it slowly closes for you.  Now, in my new place, where we don't have that, for some reason, I can't myself out of the habit of slamming the toilet seat down.  It's really loud and startles me.  Also, I get weirded out by having to carefully hold the toilet lid with my fingertips, where before I could just knock it with any part of me.  Now, if I'm ever in the market for toilet seats, I'm getting the slow-close ones.

My cell phone.  I don't know how I survived without it previously but somehow I did.  Now it is a major burden not to have it.

Mirror defroster in my autos. Accidently got this feature and now I love it. It is a huge help for early morning.

I also love the rewind feature on my DVR. i always want to on the radio as well but no such luck.

THIS!

On a sidenote: the internet on my phone. Yes, I've had it for years now, but I used to always think it wasn't necessary...until I got it. God bless technology.

I want to vote for a few items...

The keyless car thing is pimp. I love it.

In car bluetooth is amazing. My car doesn't have this and I almost sold my car to get it.

Email on my phone enables me to never have to turn my computer on at home

Dvr, while seems to not be within the scope of this thread, is something I can't live without anymore.

I'd put the computer and internet in the category of, things I'd most prefer not to be without...I knew as soon as I got a computer,I wanted internet access...

I will say
Twitter....
Vacuums, with automatic cord rewind...Also being able to stop the agitator...
Redbox  movie kiosks

I think I'll stop there before I sound like a severely ass backwards redneck... Embarrassed

Brian, blue tooth is AMAZING. I would never have gotten it but it came with the other stuff I wanted on my car. I thought I would never use it. Now I can't imagine having a car without it.

Gotta also agree on the smart phone thing. I always wondered why people needed email, internet, etc on their phone. I thought I would never use it. Wow was I wrong.

GPS

Good one there.  I don't know how I managed to survive on directions from friends all these years.  Also, if you own an Android smartphone, you have a GPS unit built in.

GPS is another.  I have a Garmin in my car.  Now, I have so much confidence to go anywhere.  I used to think I could never move, because I'd just be constantly lost.  It's great.
