A story on my local news lastnight threw out a stat, that kind of floored me...

the Pew Research Center found that most adults text more than 40 times a day.

Link,and video to story

I've never heard of the Pew research center,so I take the accuracy with a grain of salt...

I know I'm far from normal when it comes to Text messages, phone calls,etc....

I get 3-4 a week from work,and might send 1 a week,and that's being extremely generous... Undecided

How often do you text? 10 times a day? 20? are you what the Pew research calls Average?

including me sending a text or both incoming and outgoing.

If we're counting both, I range from 0-12 per day, I'd say.  Majority of texting is for information gathering, not for chit-chat.

Oh man. I text all day long. I had to switch my plan to unlimited because it was costing me so much. I'd say on average 20 - 40+. Depending on whom I'm talking to at the time.

With that said, I NEVER call anyone. I hate talking on the phone.

I have to say that as wireless devices have evolved, I find myself texting and using apps a lot more and talking a lot less.  I have the old Verizon plan with 900 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data.  I want to get the Samsung Galaxy s3 when I am eligible for an upgrade in January, but Verizon has said that if I get that device at their promotional price, I have to give up the unlimited data and switch to one of those new family shared plans.  That is something I cannot and will not do because it would cost me more money every month.

I don't text that much.  A couple of times a day.

I text more at night if I'm watching sports and texting a friend about the plays.

However, I work with girls that it is their whole life.  They just keep an open text conversation going all day long.

I don't text or call anyone much at all. I just used my phone for anything (incoming or outgoing text or call) for the first time since my friend called on Sunday to see if I was going to his house for the game.

My wife owned her own business and had a staff of about 10-12. The texting got so bad she ended up making them leave their phones at the front desk. I feel bad for the owner of a business these days trying to get an honest days work.

I don't mind texting at all, so long as it's just the transfer of information.  It's when it turns into general conversation that it starts to bother me.  ...but whatever.  I suppose I have to see the irony of complaining about this on a message board that I check 5 times a day at work.

However, at least the board doesn't "nudge" me.  I see it on my time.

I'm with Lil B, I receive maybe 2-3 texts per week, and maybe send 1 or 2 texts - usually always to reply to the text I received.

Hate texting, maybe a few times a week. Might text to my GF if I'm bored. My daughter does that shit constantly even while out to eat, pisses the fuck out of me. Texting just takes too much time back and forth and I'm more of the type to just pick up the phone and say what has to be said and be done with it. Not to mention that my fingers are too big to be efficient at it.

My sentiments exactly. It's been my experience that women and the less than 30 crowd do more texting than my generation.

Can someone please tell me WTF has texting while driving not been made illegal in all 50 states? I was driving down a 2 lane road the other day and I see this car right on my rear bumper. It is some teenager texting. I honked my horn to get their attention and pulled over to let them by. Would rather them be in front of me than behind.

Seriously, how many people have to die???

I hate talking on the phone so I text and prefer texting from friends and family. I probably do about 50-75 a day depending on the day. My son has cleared over 10K (sent & received) a month a few times.

Between 10-20 a day. It takes less time to text as opposed to actually talking. Thank God for unlimited text plans.
