"Supposedly", a member of the Fins Marketing Office sent an e-mail to the site below (see link) inviting Rams fan to Miami to see the game with discounted tickets being an incentive. Is that wrong?

This disgusts me.  This happens all the time with this team.

They don't care about who's in the stadium as long as the seats are filled.  Sad fact is that Dolphins fans aren't going so they kinda have no choice.  Its not like there's suddenly going to be a surge of 20,000 Dolphins fans that magically realize they wanna go this weekend.

I just wish they'd stop deliberately marketing to opposing fans.

The Panthers did this with the Flyers' fans a few years back, and got roasted for it.  Its embarrassing.

How many people from St. Louis do you think would buy discounted tickets and make the trip? 200? 400 max.? Not a big deal and the money (hotel, food, tickets...) does stay in Miami.

If local fans won't buy the tickets they need to sell them elsewhere.  I recall going to a Pats - Packers game as a kid and there was 7 buses from Wisc.

The Packers have some of the most dedicated fan base on the planet. They would go to the moon to see a game. St. Louis?? Not so much.

Funny, you mention "perishable product". I went to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and we studied using examples from the airline industry and the empty seat on an airplane is a perfect example. That seat is worthless if it is empty.   

People started realizing if they waited until the last minute they could get a discounted ticket. The airlines countered by offering fewer flights. I could not tell you the last time I got on a 3/4 filled plane.

I don't like the idea, but do these people make commission? Is this an overly eager groups sales rep just trying to boost their sales rather than the "Dolphins organization" doing this?

Could be wrong but I am under the assumption that the person is an employee who works in the marketing department and gets a salary. Doubt very much they get a commission.

It could be a sales guy who's looking for commission.  That's who usually makes these kind of calls.

Its one thing if its the Rams, who have a relatively small local following.  But when its the Jets, Giants, Steelers, Patriots, Cowboys, etc, then I'd get more annoyed.

Basically any team that sells out its season tickets, doesn't need to do this.

Of course there are teams that don't have too. But some teams do. I know SD does. Jax does. KC began this past year I believe. Tough economy, some teams stink...I understand the practice. No the Packers, Steelers, Giants..etc don't have to. But more teams do have to do this than don't.  Wish Miami didn't have to, but I am not upset that they are at the current moment. If Miami was an elite NFL team right now, different story. They aren't so its no big deal to me.

I know it's a double edge sword but look at the bright side, as Fins mentioned they are getting additional boost in the economy! As a famous politician once said "its the Economy stupid". Besides we live in the technology era, just digitize all fans to aqua and orange colors hehehe!

The point is, if your own fans are selling out the games, you don't need to market to other teams' fans.

If Dolphin fans don't want the team begging and pleading with other teams' fans to buy tickets, there is a rather straightforward solution.
