With the Pats loss the Fins are tied for 1st.

Jets-Pats play each other next week. Miami-Jets the following week.

Well the Bills just won so its a 4 way tie for 1st so probably shouldn't be too excited! lol

I'm happy as heck the Fins are tied for first.  With the exception of the Texans and Ravens, no other AFC team is doing really well.  Unfortunately after the bye the tough part of the season starts for Miami with (5) divisional games, a home game against the Seahawks (who inexplicably keep winning), and a road trip to the 49ers (which inspite of their loss today are probably one of the best NFC teams).

The Jets and Colts games are among the most winnable of the remaining (10) games, I think the only way Miami gets in the playoffs is if they tie for 1st in the division, and win the spot on tie breaker rules.

I think the EASY part of the schedule is coming up for Miami. Jets, Bills TWICE, Tenn, Colts, Jags, Seattle (cross country trip, 1pm game). Yes they got SF and NE TWICE. Miami could easily find themselves at 8 or 9 wins and in some wild tiebreaker situation at the end of December for a wildcard. If NE isn't so hot they could end up possibly challenging them for the division. Although I think NE will right the ship soon though and run away with the AFC East.

LOL, I knew someone would say that. I thought it would have been our resident Jets fan spinning it as Tannehill is the QB of a last place team! LOL

I hope your right.  I always think of divisional games as being the toughest (no matter where the two teams are ranked) becuase there is so much familiarity and rivalries from playing so often.  I do like the attitude this TEAM seems to have versus recent teams.

Seriously, though, Miami is really in third place.  Division record is important, and based on division record right now, the standings are actually:

NYJ
NE
MIA
BUF

Furthermore, two of NE's losses are to NFC teams, which are the "best" losses you can get.  NE is sitting pretty from the tiebreaker standpoint.

Not sure how legit "easy" this is. I'd be shocked if they sweep the Bills. Division games don't seem to go that way. I don't think the Seattle game is an easy one either after they just beat NE. The bigger prob with this statement is that the rest of the division has most of the same schedule- with the Jets getting the Rams instead of SF and the Pats getting the Rams instead of Seattle. It's entirely possible they could be in position for a wild card or the division, but at this point, making that statement seems like counting your chickens, especially in light of what Spider noted about division record. The AFCE seems like the wackiest division this year. NE looked crazy good two weeks in a row, then they blow a lead late in a game they absolutely dominated the stats. The Jets looked like they were on the way to a 5 win season, then they blew up for 250 rushing yards this week. I doubt they do that against Miami, but somehow the Rams rushed for 6 yards a carry against them. IMO, it's too early to start thinking division title based on every team in the division having almost the same schedule. -EK

If it was September 1st, and someone told you:

"going into week 7, the Dolphins will be tied with the Patriots for 1st in the AFC East"

...you'd have laughed them out of the building.

Absolutely. If it was Sept. 1st, and someone told you:

"going into week 7, the Dolphins will be tied with the Bills for 4th in the AFC East"

...you'd have agreed whole-heartedly. There's still 10 games left to play. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. -EK

I'm not a pessimist, I'm a REALIST. This board is the biggest group of manics I've ever come across. Hartline has one great game, now he's suddenly a very good receiver. Miami is realistically in third place in the division, but let's talk division titles. RG3 gets hit once, and now he's "fragile." Romo has a 5 INT game, now he should be cut. Marshall drops a fewer % of passes thrown to him than the aforementioned Hartline, but his "drop problem" means he should be shipped out. Every move that works out must be a Philbin move because he's great; every move that doesn't must be an Ireland move because he sucks. No room for a grey area. There's a big picture- a long term season that people just seem to discount. It's silly. No- it's fanatical. -EK
