^^^ My response was in relation to badger6's example of not allowing a child to play sports.

Are we talking about public or private schools here?

I don't have a problem with the government telling public schools what they can and can't provide for lunch, however I have a big problem with them trying to regulate what the kids eat for lunch if they aren't eating what the school provides.

As for private schools they can do whatever the hell they want. No one is forced to go to a private school. That's at the parent's/students discretion. If you don't like the lunch policy they have, don't go there.

I'm fine with this decision.

I think this topic makes for a great debate and agree that kids too young to know what's best for them should have some guidance. I also agree there seems no end to government intervention.

Perhaps instead of singling out a particular product "like cheetos", they should have a strict criteria of what can and cannot be served in public schools.

FWIW, where I live private schools are gaining popularity and most that can afford it have removed their kids from the public school system. The county I am in has seen enrollment drop for 4 straight years despite increasing population. It has actually caused quite a budget problem.

If that's the case then letting your child play football, basketball, or soccer is endangering your child. Life involves risk !!!

Playing team sports like the ones you note have been widely proven to not only increase the physical fitness and overall health of a developing child, but also to help them build critical social and interpersonal skills that will help them work and live well with others as adults. Do you think you might be able to cite one bit of scientific research to indicate that the munching of Cheetos or other fat-snax helps do ANYTHING positive to a person of any age?

Of course not. You just randomly spout stupid shit. Hopefully, one of these days you'll learn how to operate both your brain and your keyboard simultaneously. Or just your brain...

Food, regardless of the type, is needed to live. I would count that a positive. On the other hand, sports is not required to live and there have been many permanent injuries and deaths from sports at all levels. Social and interpersonal skills can be developed in many different ways.

I would respond to this, but I would probably make you cry and get myself banned. It would also mean that I let you get to me, but you are not man enough to get to me. All I can say is I wish you had the opportunity to say that to my face in the middle of nowhere. With that said, move along little boy !!!

Now I know you're just trolling...no one could possibly be so stupid that they would say that publicly.

Its absolutely and utterly unacceptable to tell me what I can and can't put in my kid's lunchbox.  If I want to give my kid 8 snack packs and chessey poofs for lunch, I should be able to do that.

I'm endangering my child by giving him/her a treat on a Friday after they got a good grade on a test?  I'm not talking about every day...

You are changing your tune here.

Giving your child a treat once a week is a far different thing than feeding them just a diet of just junk food.

Say what ? You are the troll little kid. I have a position in this thread. You have none, you just came here to insult me with no position whatsoever. Looking at your post history you don't really discuss anything, you just pop your head into a thread to bash someone you don't agree with with no substance to your posts. You sir are the epitome of a troll. Nice try at deflection though. Go get your leftie buddies to back you up now. At least Spiderdan has a position, I can respect that, even if we disagree. You are a coward. Fuck GWBush, you are the current failure, say hey to Obama for me, ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I have a position in this thread. You have none...

My position was that only an idiot would use the argument "Food, regardless of the type, is needed to live. I would count that a positive." when discussing kids snacking on cheetos in school.

I stand by that position...only an idiot would say it. Deny the label, embrace the label, hop on a cross and claim personal-attack martyrdom over the label...I don't give a rat's ass.

I don't say how that's changing my tune, nowhere in my original post, which you quoted, did I discuss a persistent diet.  However, according to the prior discussion, even one "offensive item" packed in my kid's lunchbox on one singular day was enough to get confiscated.
