'72 - The Perfect Season

Who would have thought that approaching the midpoint of the 2012 season, that Miami and Indy would be playing a game that has playoff implications; but that's where we are.

Looking at the remaining games, it's no longer crazy to talk about the playoffs.  It's still a tough road, but at least you can see a path to getting there; but we need to win this week.

At 4 - 3, both teams are in the hunt, and could be fighting for the final wild card spot.  It's quite conceivable that if Indy wins this game, the two teams could end the season tied and Indy would take the final spot based on a "head to head" tie breaker.  If Miami wins this week, I think it knocks the Colts out of contention.

With the parity this year, I think 9 - 7 could make the playoffs, but 10 - 6 would be a safer position.  That means we need to win 6 of the 9 remaining games against the Colts, Titans, Bills, Seahawks, Pats, 49ers, Jags, Bills and Pats.

Beat the Colts and go 5 - 3, and we are on our way.

I don't see this as a must win for the fins, the way the Jets game was.  But it is an important game both b/c of Indy-Colts tie breaker and because it is a conf game.

I think that's the best way of putting it.  I guess you can say the same for elimination games.......none are elimination games until you are out of it.  I still view this as a critical game to give us a reasonable shot at a playoff spot.

I completely agree.  How many teams have we seen maintain a division lead all season only to lose it in the final couple weeks?

With the parity this year, I think 9 - 7 could make the playoffs, but 10 - 6 would be a safer.

You may be right, but ten wins in the AFC guarantees you nothing.  The 2003 Dolphins and the 2007 Browns know that all too well.

They you have a different view of what is a "must win" game than what the term typically means.

Game 4 of the world series was a must win game for the Tigers, it was hardly a must win game for the Giants.

It's not a must win for Miami, it's a "Nice to have" game at most.

I think the term "MUST WIN" is stupid honestly. Who goes into a game saying...."eh, its ok if we  lose this one"

This is the lamest debate we have had here during my tenure and it is back again. Is any game in the scheme of things a "must win"? The world kept turning for the Tigers after that game four example so was it really a "must win"? Let's not get tied up in this again, please.

I'm glad the Colts are 4-3 heading into this game.  if they were a sub .500 team or a 1-win team, I would be nervous about this game and pretty certain we would lose on the road.

Having said that, I believe the team has an excellent chance of going up to Indy and controlling this game the way the DEF is capable of and getting out with a victory.

any win on the road in the NFL is a bonus.  NFL games are decided by 4-5 plays, regardless of how good/bad teams are when they play.  look at MIA in the 1st game vs HOU.  MIA was playing pretty much even with the Texans thru 1-1/2 Q and then the TOs late in the 1st half doomed the game for MIA.

here's to a MIA victory on Sunday.

Go Phins, beat the Colts!!!!
