New GM, new coach. That almost always happens unless the coach is VERY successful

Of course, the Panthers provided a nice counterexample by hiring a new GM a few days ago and then announcing that Ron Rivera would stay on as head coach for 2013. The Panthers won 6 last season and 7 this season... hardly inspiring. I'd expect Rivera to be gone if next year doesn't show improvement.

The Panthers were a tough out all year and went 5-1 to finish the year. They also lost 7 games by less than a TD. Everyone who has penciled them in as a win next year is outside if their mind. You put a healthy defense back on the field- which I imagine will happen next year- and they're a playoff team as is, right now. -EK

They only beat 2 teams with a winning record (Atlanta and Washington) and they actually lost to KC. They weren't that impressive. For a team in the 2nd year of a regime with a so called "great can't miss" QB....that isn't good.

You don't get brownie points for being a "tough out". You either win or you lose! Nobody cares if you "lose close."

Unless you watched them play, you have no idea what you're talking about. Aren't you the one who is always saying the box score is meaningless and stats don't tell the whole story? They were a far more impressive 7-9 than, say, Miami. -EK

I did watch them play. And I saw Cam act like a child and sulk multiple times on the sideline and act lik an overgrown child. They had 2 good wins. The 5 other "good" teams they played they lost. Den, Giants, Chicago,Seattle,  Dallas (and lost the Giants/Den games very badly.) Also lost the other Atlanta game. They beat up on the bad teams (Philly, Raiders, SD, Saints...etc) and actually lost to a god awful KC team and got swept by the Bucs.

They are an OK/middle of the pack team. But not impressive or better than their record indicates. They gave up 363 pts only a few teams gave up more. They suck on defense.

You obviously didn't watch them play much or you would have seen that they lost the first Atlanta game on a fluke play with less than a minute left. You would have also seen that they don't suck on defense, they had several injuries on that side of the ball. Big difference. -EK

So when it's Miami and RT, "he's a rookie, there's a learning curve, look at the improvement, it's growth and encouraging." When it's any other team, "a loss is a loss." Further, if a loss is a loss, then a win is a win, and you can't discount any of their wins as  "unimpressive." Interesting lack of logic. Paint it whatever color you want- I believe Carolina is a playoff team and will have ten wins next year. -EK

1) How did Miami and Tannehill get thrown into this thread?

2) Newton ISN'T a rookie, bad comparison!

3) I can discount their wins as unimpressive if they are over  BAD teams!

4) You are welcome to beleive whatever you want! Nobody is stoping ya!  Smiley

Yes you can certainly say whatever you want, but you look like a fool saying a loss is a loss, but only for certain teams and not others, while simultaneously arguing a win isn't a win. -EK
