Ray retires a champion. And in a "surprise" move, so does The Ball Hawk Ed Reed.

Everyone around my age who is not from Cali and is a 49ers fan is a frontrunning sucker.  I fucking hate frontrunners.  GO RAVENS.

I will be AT THE GAME and it's the last week of Mardi Gras - hope I come back alive!

Super Bowl history likes this pick... San Francisco has either won by 4-5 points (twice) or blown the doors off their opponent (three times) in their first five trips...

My thoughts - traditionally the team that wins the Superbowl has success running the ball, stopping the run, and creating turnovers.

A big factor will be how well Ray Lewis reads San Francisco's version of the option - they just can't allow running backs a free lane into the end zone while looking at Kaepernick like Atlanta did in the red zone. They also have to decide if they try and get to Kaepernick or contain him - the first of these two options didn't work out well for Green Bay, so I'd expect them to have a plan to contain him within the tackles (similar to what Washington did with John Elway back in Superbowl XXII). San Francisco has shown it can do everything well though, and I don't think the Ravens have seen an offense like this all year - Lewis will have to call a perfect game (like against Manning & Brady), plus they have to snag a turnover or two to be a realistic chance. That or they hope Kaepernick chokes under the sports biggest spotlight...

My gut feel is the 49ers will have more success running the ball than the Ravens, and will do it often to take pressure off Kaepernick - Frank Gore & company have looked more effective than Ray Rice, who from memory has also coughed up the ball a few times recently. Joe Flacco has been making the big throws in big games and will have his chance against a secondary which is generally very solid, but also susceptible to the occasional blown coverage like against the Falcons. He's been damn good during the playoffs, but the offensive line has given him plenty of time too - I expect they will have more problems with that excellent 49ers defensive front.

In regard to talent and game philosophy the teams are pretty close, but overall I think San Francisco just has the edge.

^^^^^

It's going to come down to the Niners read option attack through Kaepernick vs the Ravens ability to stop it.
