A tweet retweeted by BenVolin...
@BenVolinPBP: RT @seankjensen Browns seriously considering a trade for Dolphins WR Davone Bess, according to a league source. Several teams in the mix

Well, at least if he goes to the Browns, MIA doesn't have to worry about a repeat of Welker...

Unless MIA can get a second-rounder, I'd rather they keep him.  I don't think MIA is likely to pick up a better player in the third.

He is in the final year of his deal and has no guaranteed money. If they get a 5th I would be happy. I don't see him having a 2nd round value. Browns don't have a 2nd rounder and I doubt they will want to trade their 3rd rounder.

IF they trade Bess it makes me believe that Eifert or Austin would be the pick at #12. Going to need another weapon in the passing game.

I am NOT against a trade because he is going to walk at the end of the year and Miami has no chance to re-sign him. So get something for him now instead of nothing when he leaves as a FA.

Tony Pauline ‏@TonyPauline 5m
Sources tell me 99.9% receiver Davone Bess from Miami to Cleveland Browns for mid round picks.

He was in danger of being cut anyway because of Gibson, so if they get a 5th rounder for him and a bit of cap space? Hell yeah. I liked Bess, but Miami clearly has no plans for him.

I was running out the door,Ben later tweeted (about Bess specifically)
Probably a 3rd-5th round pick? RT @Hamilton_RTM: @BenVolinPBP What do you think we can get for him?

Can independently confirm that #Browns are interested in trading for Davone Bess, although source indicates sides aren't close right now

Dolphins desire to trade Bess, potentially to Browns, shouldn't surprise anyone. He was No. 1 on our Most Wanted list

Interesting side note that the Dolphins play at the Browns in Week 1. Would be weird to see Bess in Brown

I'm torn I like Bess, but understand....I hope we can get as much as possible for him..

Armando brings up a good point in that Miami might be targeting Ryan Swope in the draft to take Bess' spot. That would make a lot of sense. Remember that Swope ran a 4.3 so he's just as fast as Austin, is bigger and has played with Tannehill and for Mike Sherman. Plus he'll be available in the second round and maybe beyond. Seems like a perfect fit.

This, folks, is why I hate regime changes.  This, the Jake Long thing, the Reggie Bush thing.  All stink of Philbin wanting "his guys," and not taking over the existing people.  I'm amazed Hartline got re-signed, at this rate.

There's no reason to believe Bess couldn't be here long term, if he wanted to.  He got a deal 2 years ago.  Its obvious that the staff is disappointed that he missed the end of last season with that back injury, and don't want "guys like that" on the team.

Personally, I love Bess, he's got good hands over the middle and just makes plays.  I watch a lot of football, and I've never even heard of this Gibson guy.

I think you are reading too much into it Brian. Bess has been solid but certainly far from a game changer. Long and Bush could have been gone just as easily if Sparano was here. I hate free agency in the NFL because to stay competitive you have to constantly look to better yourself and we haven't been doing that.

I don't think Philbin was disappointed with Bess at all, I just think that Philbin wants guys that can play all the WR positions. Bess is a great slot guy, but he's not that great on the outside. I think the feeling was that Bess was only going to be with Miami one more year, they weren't going to resign him, so getting a draft pick for him this year was better then him playing a year and then leaving.

Personally, I love Bess, he's got good hands over the middle and just makes plays.

That's probably because you don't watch St. Louis much. Go watch some game tape on Gibson, especially the game against Miami. He's an up and coming player and I'm not sure why St. Louis didn't try to keep him really. I don't know that he'll be better then Bess, but he might be. Before this trade I didn't think Miami was going to take a WR in the draft, at least not in the first couple of rounds, however if they trade Bess, I think that all changes. Maybe they really like a WR but don't think they'll be room for him on the roster with Bess, so trading Bess for draft picks makes room for the rookie and gives them another draft pick in the process. That's not such a terrible idea. I'd like to wait to see what Miami does over the next couple of days before condemning this trade.

Here's what I don't understand about STL:

- Bradford was a RotY
- NE apparently thinks Amendola is better than Welker
- MIA apparently thinks Gibson is better than Bess

So why has STL finished 21st, 30th, and 18th in passing yardage the last 3 years?

^^ No, didn't say that.  But I'd rather we don't ditch Philbin after 2 bad seasons also.  Some people think ditching a coach every 2 years until you win some games is the right way to find a coach.

I like Davone Bess, and hope that he continues giving his same "gritty but consistent" slot production wherever he ends up.  That said, I understand the roster dynamics involved in this kind of decision, and agree completely with getting whatever you can in a trade, rather than just cutting him loose. If Miami could get a 5th or 6th round pick...I'm on board.

who's talking about firing Philbin?

Hell Sparano got 4 years and an extension before he was fired
