The coaches like Binns, Fuller, and Matthews they feel that is there WR depth. I might actually agree with you that WR depth isn't great (not bad though either, just not great), but I am telling you what the coaches feel. They think they do have WR depth.

They also like Marcus Thigpen lined up as a WR as well and he could be used in 4 WR sets this year as well.
Fair enough you might be right. Ireland did say last year they had a bunch of 3's, 4's and 5's but no 1's and 2's, so maybe he felt like once he signed Wallace and Gibson he had his 1 and 2 and didn't need Bess or anyone else for that matter. I tend to disagree but maybe that's just me.

Huh? They did it. It didn't work. And the coach was run out of town!! Not exactly a ringing endorsement of copying that plan!
I didn't say it was popular or effective, but it can be. I didn't like it for Wake because Wake was the only pass rusher Miami had at the time. Jordan will not be the only pass rusher for Miami. If Jordan does a good job rushing the passer, I think you'll see Wake dropping into coverage from time to time too. Variety is the spice of life.

^^On 3rd and long's this year expect to see Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Keller spread out. With Charles Clay in the backfield or flanked out as well. The #4 and #5 WR might only play on a couple designed packages and be limited. Will only see substantial playing time if someone gets hurt.

The next time that an NFL team goes through a season without a WR getting hurt will be the first.  Evil

Wake is 31 years old who is a dominate pass rusher in this league...if they are dropping him into coverage there are serious issues! He is not a cover guy! He is a 4-3 DE!! IF Cam Wake is dropping into coverage on any kind of consistent basis you are helping your opponents. Aside from the occasional "gimmick play" to confuse someone that should be run a handful of times a year that should never be done!

For Wake, I would agree, for Jordan I don't at least not this year. He's NOT 31, he HASN'T shown to be a dominate pass rusher yet and he IS a cover guy. If he BECOMES a dominant pass rusher, then I got no problem with him doing that on every down, but then there's no reason NOT to do that then now is there? My response that Jordan may be dropping into coverage was a response to Sunstroke suggesting that Jordan might not become a star pass rusher this year.

Can't have depth everywhere, its only a 53 man roster....46 active on game days! No team has quality depth at EVERY position. You pick your spots. Miami with 3 very good WR's feels they are fine.  Miami feels they can get by with their backup WR's if they need to in a pinch. Considering the way Philbin and co. groomed WR's in GB....I give him the benefit of the doubt on this position

If you think Jordan is a cover guy we will just agree to disagree and move on and end this debate(and I will save this thread and wait to prove ya wrong and show it to ya in a few months Evil )!  He is NOT a cover guy in the NFL. He is hopefully the next Jason Piere Paul. A big body freak of nature pass rusher with huge arms, great speed, and long strides making it easy to get to the QB.

He was in college. That's all I can go on right now.

I agree, but if he's not at least not this year, then if he can drop into coverage and still help your team, he can do that as well.

^^there is no defensive play imaginable where Jordan is dropping into coverage is a positive for Miami this year, next year, or ever. In 5 months or so when the real games start we will see who is right and revisit this.  Grin

It's gonna take more than 5 months to back up that claim.  Grin

Guess we'll have to come back to this thread after Jordan's NFL career is over, unless he has a single pass defense, then I'll be here. Smiley

You have been a worthy opponent. Smiley

By the way JPP has 18 career pdef's. I imagine most of those were balls batted at the line of scrimmage, but that's another way that Jordan can help the team without getting a sack.  Evil

Just to stir the pot a little, there is the "zone blitz".  One of those every couple of games might confuse a QB, and is in every coaches play book.

The only issue I have is that we didn't try to get any extra WR's in the draft, outside of that and the mystery of the lonesome kicker, I really don't have any issue with what they picked up.
