Browns WR (their best WR) got a 2 game suspension. Miami won't see him Week 1 which is good.

Substance abuse policy failure, he is claiming he had strep throat and took medicine which showed up as a test failure. Mind you he did fail 3 marijuana tests in college so few are believing his excuse. But the NFL did go light on him only giving him 2 games and not the 4 most players get so maybe he is right about the medicine. But this clearly isn't his first failure in the NFL either, so he had to have failed other test since joining the Browns to warrant a suspension of any kind

Either way he ain't playing week 1 vs Miami

Talent-wise, he's definitely their best, and at such a young age (22), all he'd really need for a "break-out" season would be some talent and stability at QB. Not sure he'll get that with Weeden...but ya never know. Definitely downgrades the Brownies' passing attack for the 'Phins opener.

This means that my deep (20 team, 40 roster spot) dynasty IDP FF squad could catch a small break. I have Davone Bess as my #3 WR there, and with Gordon's suspension combined with Bess' great showing early on in Browns' OTAs, it seems likely that Bess will get more targets the first few weeks of the season.

Browns might be without a couple other players Week 1.

First round pick Mingo has a bruised lung and is still in the hospital
Back up Running Back Dion Lewis broke his leg last night, season over
Starting guard Jason Pinkston was carted off the field with a serious ankle injury and he has blood clot issues making it tougher to come back from injuries in general (and his backup is already out a month injured)

I remember a few years back, Sammy Morris got suspended because he took Sudafed.  Why suspend a player for taking medicine that my 8 year old granddaughter can walk into a CVS or Walgreens and buy over the counter?  If Gordon's story is true and accurate, it makes no sense.

^^^ She can't. Not unless she is 18 with proof of ID. Since 2006 you can only purchase limited amounts in a month's time.

Not Sudafed specifically.  What I was referring to was the fact that a lot of over the counter medicines can cause players to fail drug tests.  That's not right.

Not with Pseudoephedrine in it. Athletes used to abuse the heck out of it. I'm sure some still do.

NFL players all have a 1-800 number to call the league  anytime day or night 7 days a week. They can ask a league doctor if what they are about to take or want to take will cause them to fail a test. If he or any of these players are too lazy to call and ask...then I have no sympathy

I agree & disagree with the suspension. I understand that rules are rules. But if you have a diagnosed illness to go along with a prescription, you should be excused.
