Better yet, can someone else scoop him up?  Even though I don't know who would want to...

Sure they can.  If someone claims him off waivers they assumethe remainder of his contract. If he clears waivers then any team can sign him for the vveteran minimum or more.  But I agree that at this stage, no one would want him

I don't know how such things work, but i wonder since he has been released. Does NE still have to pay him anything ?

There is probably some sort of "no criminal behavior" clause that will get them out of it ala Vick.

They might not have to pay him but the salary cap hit isn't going away

If they don't have to pay him that the cap hit goes away.  If they do pay him it they take the hit.

From PFT:

As Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has pointed out, and as we’ve confirmed, the Hernandez contract mysteriously omits language that would forfeit the guarantee in the event of a default by Hernandez.  In English, this means he’s arguably entitled to the money even if he’s suspended, in jail, or both.

Patsies lose a quality player AND still take the cap hit? That's a win-win right there...

Update.  Hernandez has been charged with murder as well as five gun related charges.  The judge has denied bail at this point

Just watched the Hernandez arraignment video, his career is over.  He's in it deep.

Is it too soon to order the Dolphins' (sans logo) 2013 AFC East Champs shirt?

Just shaking my head at this young man who may have thrown away his life. I say may have, because there hasn't been a conviction yet.

Wow.  Dan Wetzel isn't playing any games here.  He just ripped Hernandez to shreds.

Things just keep getting worse for Hernandez.  Now he's a "person of considerable interest" in a 2012 murder according to B/R.

Yup, NEP have never been about just one player.  And if so, he wouldn't be the one.

Hard to believe that none of his teammates knew about his offfield antics.  Seems like this behavior and his acquaintices go back a long time.

Would be surprised if the NFL doesn't start questioning some his teammates..maybe even the Golden Child: Brady!!!   Grin

Yeah, 'cause if you committed a double homicide, the first thing you do is blab about it to your colleagues.
