Miami probably won the battle.

Just glad he signed and its over with!

Edit: Just read Offset language is in the deal. But Dion will get his signing bonus money quickly and not deferred

I agree with MikeO.   I'm just glad he's signed and in camp in time for the first practice

Fins placed Jordan on the active/non-football injury list.

If he isn't moved off the list by the day of final cuts he will miss the first 6 regular season games.

The team knew about this injury.  Still, this is Ireland's make or break pick.  As the third overall pick, he'd better become the next Bruce Smith or it will look really bad on Ireland.

bruce smith? thats like top 5, DE of all time, lol... I'll be fine with a great player, or even just a one trick sack specialist pony. But HOF at 3rd overall is a stretch.

Bruce Smith?! So he only has to be the all time NFL leader in sacks,  a Top 3 DE in NFL history, and make the Hall of Fame or else he is a bust? Unreal!!   Roll Eyes

Bruce Smith is stretching it big time.  But my point is this:  When you're the #3 overall pick, you are expected to contribute right away, and at a high level.

Well I wouldn't expect much this year from Dion. He is going to come off the bench this season and be a situational player most likely. His snaps will be limited. I don't see him starting if everyone is healthy.

Not a good way to use your first round pick, especially #3 overall.  If it was a quarterback, I could understand, but a defensive end is a different story.

can he play a down before you insinuate he is a bust because he isn't starting from Day 1?

The Fins used this pick because long-term this kid can be a stud. He has size and speed you can't teach. Plus with Soliai or Starks gone after this year he will then be a starting DE for years to come. It's not like this year he is sitting behind scrub players.

You make it sound like if Miami didn't draft him at #3 he would have not been drafted. lol

My 2 cents. Being the 3rd pick doesn't mean that he has to be HOF worthy or like Bruce Smith. What it does mean is that he starts immediately and consistently makes solid plays. Not that he won't have his bad days, just that he clearly performs like an above average player starting this year.

You're missing the entire point.  I'm not insinuating he is a bust or will be one.  It's just my philosophy that your top pick should step in and contribute right away.  Defensive end is not a position you bring along slowly (like quarterback).  This kid needs all the snaps he can get and if the Dolphins aren't giving it to him, then  they shouldn't have traded up to get him.
