Just got cut...

Worth Kicking the tires?  Yes? No? Maybe?  I know nothing of his contract size or how injury prone he is...

Didn't catch a pass at all last year for the Pats.  Just got cut the Ravens.  I'd go for a Randy Mac or Kevin Boss before considering him

Kevin Boss isn't cleared to play. Will be forced to retire.

Shiancoe got cut by a team with a worse TE situation than Miami's.

The Patriots have the best TE duo in the league.  Shiancoe was a 3rd stringer.  Surprised he didn't play much?

That doesn't speak as much volumes as being cut by a team whose tight end situation is worse than Miami's

Should I even throw out a name like Jeremy Shockey?  Did he retire?  If you want a guy to do some damage in the middle of the field, you could do far worse...

Or are we comfortable going with the patchwork duo of Clay and Egnew...

From what I've read Egnew can't block worth a shit and Clay while a decent blocker and a serviceable reciever isn't going to scare anybody running routes...

I'm wondering if we want Ireland to try to put a trade package together for a guy like Gresham, who may be expendable now with Eifert there.  Personally, I don't think that its worth a trade, but it would be nice if we could accelerate the development of Dion Sims.

Derrick Shelby maybe?  This team has a logjam at defensive end.  I'd love to see a Jermaine Gresham or Brent Celek type trade.

Miami has gotten rid of every guy with "attitude issues" I don't see them making  a play for Shockey who has his issues.

The whole point of them drafting Eifert was so they had a 2 TE set like the Pats did with Gronk/Hernandez. Trading away Gresham makes the Eifert pick silly.

A lot of TE's will be released later this week and Miami will fight it out with Baltimore over those guys.

Could Miami ship a 6th rounder to someone for a TE who is about to be cut....sure. But that makes Ireland look bad considering the last 2 drafts he used a 3rd rounder and a 4th rounder on TE's and neither can step up and contribute. We need to now send ANOTHER draft pick to get a guy to leap-frog those two who he hand-picked! Which is why I think a trade is unlikely, it puts egg on Ireland's face.

A trade could happen for a TE...I just wouldn't hold my breath for it to happen

KC TE Tony Moeaki who was going to most likely be cut by KC and probably be one of the bigger name TE's on the open market fractured his shoulder this weekend , so that is one less option for Miami.

Moeaki would have been outplayed by Fasano if he were to hit the market.  Is that what we want?

What do you expect to get in late August cuts? A future hall of fame TE? A superstar player? These guys all are getting cut for a reason, they aren't very good. It's about picking best of a bad bunch and maybe someone can fill a role and help a little.

Moeaki is like the Nate Garner of tight ends.  Talented with great upside but can't stay healthy long enough to do some serious damage to opposing defenses.
