I guess I hadn't seen him in a while. He looked kinda bad. Does he have some health issue(s)?

He's in his 80's and is having trouble walking.  It's safe (and sad) to say he doesn't have much time left on this earth.  It will be a sad day for Dolphins fans when he passes on.

He almost died 2 years ago, it was real close. He  hasn't been the same since.

I really enjoyed the show, but like you guys mentioned, he doesn't look too good.  Being old enough myself to have been a kid who worshipped Shula during the glory years of the early 1970's, it is sad to see what I remember as a young and healthy guy now in his 80's.  But as I said to my wife as we were watching it, that will be all of us some day.

I loved the story Csonka told of finding the Raiders playbook before a game and having Monte Clark give it to Shula.  The Raiders went on to beat the Dolphins and Csonka asked afterwards how they could have lost when they had the Raiders playbook and was told that Shula threw it in the trash and would not use it to "cheat".   Typical Shula right there.  He may have been a hardass, but he was as fair and admirable a guy as you were likely to find anywhere.

That's why they say live life to its fullest.  Because at one point, we will all be worm food.  I feel sorry for old people who claim they only had a "few good days and bad days" in their life.  I want a lot of good days and a lot of bad days in a very intense life.  Then when I lay down for my eternal rest, I can look back and say it was a helluva ride.

Shula did a big autograph show in NJ a year or two ago and it was said at the time that it would be his last autograph signing because he wasn't up for the travel anymore. He was big on the autograph circuit always traveling around the country to these big shows.

Peter King did an awesome story on him back in August

He came to my town a handful of years back or so to speak at a Boys Scout banquet dinner type thing. It was great to meet the man. He was very nice.
