Dolphins in the National Media

What about the Jets or Cowboys?  Why are they always relevant?  If they win, the story is how good they are.  If they lose, the story is about how bad they are.

I think it has much more to do with popular, big market teams, than it does quality of play.

Are you guys seeing any national stories about us?

I can't remember who it was but a regular on NFL Network picked us as his team to go all the way in the AFC.  He said he likes what we're doing and that the defense is solid enough to make a strong run.  He also said that the AFC looks pretty bad other than Miami and Denver.   He said other stuff but I can't really remember as when he said Miami was his favorite in the AFC I was in shock! LOL

It was either Darren Woodson, Darren Sharper or Rodney Harrison... those three look so much alike to me.

It wasn't Harrison. He said the Dolphins might be able to overtake the Patriots in the AFC East but I never heard him mention about them going all the way

That has a lot to do with it.  There aren't a lot of Dolphin fans (or Dolphin haters for that matter) outside the Miami area.  OTOH, Steelers, Jets, Cowboys, etc. have national interest.

Are there really that many Jets fans? I can agree that I've met Dallas & Pittsburgh fans everywhere. I have only known very few people to admit to being a Jets fan.

There aren't a lot of Dolphin fans (or Dolphin haters for that matter) outside the Miami area. 

There used to be, but its been so long since the 70's Super Bowl wins, and the years that Marino was in his prime.  Some have died, some are in hiding, and some have moved on.  A couple years of playoff visits and the fair weather fans will be back out wearing the colors.

Really?  You don't see how this works? NYC has the most people, its the biggest media market. So the Networks play to the larger markets and those fans. Give them what they want, cover their teams.

NY, Chicago, Philly, LA, Dallas....teams in those cities will always get extra attention by the networks because those cities have the most people (ie most potential viewers).

Houston is the 4th most populous city in the US, Boston is the 21st.  Does this mean the Astros/Texans/Rockets get more coverage than the Red Sox/Patriots/Celtics?  Hell no.

But maybe when you said "has the most people" you exclusively meant has the biggest media market?  Fine.  SF is the #6 media market, Boston is #7.  So surely we hear more about the Warriors than the Celtics, right?  Again, hell no.

Here is the hierarchy for US sports media:

1) The Northeast (NYC, Boston, Philly, sometimes DC)
2) LA
3) Texas
4) Great Lakes (IL/MI/OH)
5) Other coast cities (SF/Seattle/Miami)
6) everyone else

Just like I long for the 20 minute intro for the Braves. But as long as there is life in the Yankees playoff chances......then again they would just replace that with a "what went wrong" segment. Its nice to hope, though.

Jets @ Mia is almost a home game for the the Jets. 

But as I said there aren't that many Dolphin fans or Dolphin haters.  There are plenty of people who hate the Jets.
