Good.  He deserves it.  His free agent class is proving to be a crop of gems.

I think he has done well lately, by cutting guys loose who underperform (Richard Marshall) and bringing in talent that has helped the team.

The only good news about this is the fact that Miami will have another year to find a good GM.  Ireland is almost as bad as Spielman was.  A monkey could have made the moves with the money we had available this past offseason.

^^ Typical biased and senseless response.  Roll Eyes

Heaven forbid people might give Ireland CREDIT for doing something good.  Instead its "a monkey could have done that..."

Actually this contract doesn't mean they even plan to have him as a the GM in 2014, unless it includes a lot of guaranteed money.

If I was an owner, I would not want either my GM or coach to ever be in a situation where they had less than a year on their contract.  I would rather take the $$$ hit for firing them before their contract is up, then have guy who is expecting to be on the way out running the team.

Granted if the Dolphins make the playoffs it would be a good reason to keep him and extend him.  But I would not see this move as meaning that Ireland is a lock to survive black Monday if the Dolphins don't.

Ireland deserves full credit for those moves.  Even if he had the money to make them, he's the one who freed up the money to use.  I'm all for criticizing poor decisions, but in this case, he deserves credit.

It's a one-year extension.  We all saw how much good that did Sparano.

The GM is not an idiot because the team starts 0-3, and he's not a genius because the team starts 3-0.  I will give Ireland all the credit in the world if this team gets at least one playoff win (or wins the division outright - no tiebreakers).

Not to mention, he made all of these blockbuster moves and we aren't even close to being in cap hell.

^^ In fact, we have leftover money!

I can't criticize a single thing so far that happened this past offseason.  If you want to nit-pick you can say they overpaid for Wallace.  But I think if you wanted to land him you had to pay the market value for a #1 WR.

The only thing I might take exception to was the Bess trade, but it sure seems like that was a Philbin move.

You would rather have Bess than Gibson? I liked Bess but I think so far, Gibson has proved more valuable to us.

I'd rather have Bess than whoever our 4th WR is.

The depth chart at WR is about as deep as a petri dish.

Same reason they didn't want Dansby, Bush, and some others. They felt Bess was a bad locker-room guy especially how last year ended with the staff thinking he was healthy enough to play and Bess not wanting to suit up! Plus if you think Bess was going to be a #4 WR in a contract year and not make a stink and be a problem you are nuts. With him playing/fighting for a contract and getting limited playing time as a #4 WR he more than likely would have been a locker-room cancer all season.

Last year ended bad between Bess and the organization....and if he stayed it would have only gotten worse.
