Saints’ Junior Galette: Dolphins aren’t as good as everyone said

It's kind of funny now. Well ... the fact many of the Dolphins fans were screaming about respect. We basically laid an egg on prime time and even worse, we looked scared doing it. I've always felt you get respect when you earn it and even if people are bias ... you still get the respect. Obviously we haven't gotten there yet but we will.

In a Monday night battle of teams that entered the game 3-0, the Saints looked like Super Bowl contenders, while the Dolphins did not. After the game, one Saints player said the Dolphins were never as good as that 3-0 record suggested.

Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette said the Dolphins really weren’t a very good team, and the Saints had an easy night.

“I just don’t feel that team was as good as everybody was saying they were,” Galette said. “We just abused the offensive line all game.”

Galette was one of four Saints who sacked Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and Galette also hit Tannehill as he was passing once, and tipped a pass that was intercepted. So he has every right to claim the Saints’ defense abused the Dolphins’ offense. Still, maybe from the Saints’ perspective, it would be preferable to say that they’re better than everyone thought, rather than saying the Dolphins are worse than everyone thought.

The truth hurts.  Even more pathetic is the fact that the Saints defense is not that good.

They were the #4 ranked D heading into the game. I posted that yesterday, but no one wanted to acknowledge it. NO's defense is good. Miami's offense is average. That's a ad combination if you're Miami. -EK

The defense is the major liability on this team right now especially against that kind of offense and without Wake, Patterson and Carroll. Don't get me wrong, the defense is good enough to be decent, but they simply are not good enough to compete with that kind of offensive firepower without all of their weapons at their disposal. At best the Dolphins D has been a bend but don't break kind of defense this year until last night. Miami was still in the game until the 3rd quarter. Once the game got out of hand then the offense got exposed, but that wasn't until the defense had already been taken out behind the shed and whipped.

Exactly. As I said last night, few teams go into New Orleans and win. This isn't a bad loss. The wins vs Indy and Atlanta are still good wins. Miami wasn't going unbeaten all year this isn't shocking that the Saints beat them. 3-1 after 4 weeks is still a terrific start to the season.

Just because the Saints are a better team doesn't mean Miami sucks now.

Realistically, though, I don't see the offense being Miami's strong point. Give up too man sacks, no receiving threat (if Wallace can return to his form 2 years ago they might, but right now, no), no TE threat, can't convert short yardage, and haven't really played anyone- except NO, who they got throat punched by. -EK

I would agree. We are a good team but we are not elite. This sin't a team that can make a few mistakes and stay in the game against the best teams. Some teams .. yes. But certainly not the top teams.

Miami is a 7-9 2012 team that has beaten 3 teams with a combined .500 record.

New Orleans is a 7-9 2012 team that has beaten 4 teams with a combined .375 record.  So how good is their defense, really?

There were factors in that game that helped it spiral out of control.. looking at score yeah it's easy to say saints whipped us! Despite all the big plays until Tanny fumbled on that scramble it was a 7-3 game.  Then again until Tanny's Int it was a 14-10 game going into half.  Those turnovers along with Carrol's bad judgement turned te game upside down.  Instead of going into half down 14-10 we go into half down 21-10.   I still put a lot of blame on that 3rd and inches call also... the offense was clicking on that drive.    It pissed me off that they didn't go hurry up to snap the ball before the saints had a chance to challenge it.

It pissed me off because they actually went hurry up on another play later in the game when they didn't need to but didn't when they needed to! smh

Game was a different game but Tanny's turnovers and Carrol's bad decision quickly changed that!

I know you were but you said the Dolphins offense was average which I don't really think it is. I think it's a bit better than average, but like you said the Saints D is actually pretty good. The Saints Offense is really good too and the Miami D is only a bit better than average as well which I think was really the problem in this game. Miami really wasn't in trouble till they got down by about 2 TD's in the 2nd half. At that point Miami abandoned the run which is what the Saints were giving Miami and had to pass and the offensive line is not built for that.

I think the Offense and the Defense are about the same. As long as the D can bend but not break, the offense is good enough to win, but if Miami gets down too much the offense isn't going to be able to compensate, the offensive line isn't strong enough to become one dimensional.
