Problem is Martin just turned into a Tim Tebow type. Wherever he goes it will be a circus like atmosphere with the media. A huge distraction for any team that signs him

Circus if he is signed by the Jets.  Just another day at the office if signed by NE.

Until Brady goes down due to a Martin missed assignment.

Is that the issue here?

Not so sure about that. The only thing that saved the "Tebow in NE" circus was the Aaaron Hernandez circus that drew attention away from Tebow

Neither became a circus. If Bullygate was to die today, it would still have had a greater news cycle than Hernandez.

Really.  I live in the Patriots news area.  And combined i have seen less news about Hernandez from the local and national press than I have seen about Bullygate from just the national press.

Bullygate has been the punchline on the Daily Show, late night comedians, etc.  been the topic on plenty of National non-sports programs, you really didn't have that with Hernandez.

And much of the publicity was positive -- e.g how quickly NE dumped him and the jersey exchange.  Not to mention still winning games despite not having either Gronk or AH.  NE emerged from this story practically untarnished.

Yes really I still see shit on Hernandez quite a bit actually and if you don't think he wasn't the punch line on every late night talk show and so on so forth especially in the first 2 months from when then story broke it is absolutely blind homerism.

Bullygate is fresh and new so it is in the headlines and all the rage right now.....but the Hernandez case was much larger.....He killed people!!!!!!

Maybe it was positive in your dark little corner of the world but the rest of the world certainly didn't think so!!!!!!  Roll Eyes

Thanks I re-ran it.

And as I suspected.....

Richie Incognito's spike was about double Martin's, which reflects what I have seen, more stories with the headline of the bully than the bullied.  I ran it with four search terms... your two plus "Richie Incognito" and "odin lloyd."  The total of RI + JM > AH + OL.

You cannot add Jonathan Martin to Richie Incognito, as any search for both of them would be counted twice.  If you want to take Incognito instead of Martin, fine.  It's still far less than Hernandez.

I am interested in hearing about the news helicopters that have been following Richie Incognito, though.

That is not true.  In fact if you combine them into one it drops because very few stories have both of them in the title.  Unlike with AH & OL. In which OL got a fraction of the attention of AH, here you have two significant players.    With Hernandez almost every single new story had his name in the title of the news story. With this one you had ones with Martin's name, ones with Incognito's name and some with neither name, such as "bullying problem in Miami."
