Why is this a story that's eating up the top story in the national media?

More NE bullshit media bias.  RGIII is a crappy player on an irrelevant team.

You think we'd even get a blip on the radar if we sat Tannehill because our season was over?

I disagree Dave. This is a major story as it is a continuation of the problems that have been ongoing in Washington since the pre-season. Just as Miami was all over the news for their locker room debacle Washington is as well. Their story just won't die though. This move is not about winning games, who is the better player, or who is their future. This move is nothing more than a power struggle between ownership, coaching, & RG III.

It's a major story because of the horrible trade Washington made to get him last year (including giving up what looks to be a top 3 pick in this upcoming draft.) When you give up what Washington gave up you expect a superstar. And RGIII looks awful this year and seems to be getting worse every week.

If Cousins comes in and plays decent and has that offense moving....watch out. This story will EXPLODE!!!

I keep hearing that if Cousins comes in and plays well, it increases his trade potential, and nothing more. The story is about as big as it's going to get if you listen to some of the talking heads. -EK

Agree with both of the last two comments. Washington screwed up massively in trading the farm to get RGIII, and Cousins has the potential to play well and become a valuable trade chip to get some of that RGIII price back.

Washington gave up their 2012 1st rounder (#6 overall), their 2nd round pick in that draft (turned into Janoris Jenkins), their 2013 first rounder (#22 overall) and their first rounder for this coming draft. At this point, you have to think they wish they would have just held pat at #6 and drafted Tannehill. Wink  Or, if you want to play the 20-20 hindsight game, since Cousins appears to have some skills as a potential starting QB, they could have used that #6 overall pick on Luke Kuechly, arguably one of the top young LBs in the league, and just gone with Cousins in round 4 like they ended up doing anyway.

Do you think his awfulness may have to do with him not being fully recovered from that knee injury?

^^ and the fact that he's been one of- if not THE- most sacked QBs in the league over his last five games. Hard for a guy with an already bad knee to look good when he's got the other team in his backfield that often. -EK

RG3 was the #2 overall pick and the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year.  Being benched (while healthy) in the middle of the following season is, indeed, a Big Deal.

Nope. Sounds like an excuse to me. If he wasn't healthy he shouldn't have played Week 1 and should have come back when he was ready whether it was October, November.,..whatever. It's the same offense as last year and almost all of the same players around him. He has just played very poorly this year and there is no reason to make excuses for him

Agree! This is why its a big story. The question now is whether RGIII was a one-hit wonder having one very good rookie year or can he rebound from this next season.  Being benched for poor play when healthy is a big deal for a #2 overall pick in year 2 of his career. Especially for someone who a franchise gave up a boat load of draft picks to trade up and get.

Brandon Weeden or Tim Tebow  get benched...who cares. Both are late 1st round picks who were miserable failures. Not a big news story. A team trades 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick to move up to take a guy and less than 35 games in his career he is being benched for poor play while healthy...not good. Then on top of that being benched for a guy who was picked 2 rounds later than him in the SAME DRAFT....wow! That's a HUGE news story! And like I said, if Cousins plays well these final 3 games....that's not good for the Skins or RGIII.

I don't think this is really even a reflection on RG3.  I think Shanahan is just trying to piss off Snyder in the hopes that Snyder fires him.

I think RG3 came back way too early and it shows. When you return from such a disastrous injury, you have to come back 100%. He has been wearing a knee brace all year, that is far from 100%. Give him more time to heal and he may return back to where he was. If not, LOL WASHINGTON.

True, but in the process Shanahan comes off looking really bad if that is his ONLY motive. And what other owner will want to hand him the keys to the kingdom and hire him if he is acting like a child trying to piss off the owner to get fired. I think that might be a small part of it, but in reality RGIII isn't any good this year and the "injury excuse" is weak!
