QB goal setting/comparison

After the win yesterday, it's interesting to look at the difference between Tannehill and Henne's points of comparison.

Henne's most comparable win was the '09 orange jersey game, in which he "outdueled" Mark Sanchez.  Henne's point of comparison was always Sanchez; to try to compare him to Brady was unthinkable.  The discussion was inevitably "Henne or Sanchez?"

Tannehill isn't there yet, but next year we may start to see more "Tannehill vs. Brady" discussion, particularly as Brady's skillset deteriorates.  It's just funny that Tannehill vs. Smith or Manuel isn't even on the table.

Tannehill has had a marked progression as the season has advanced, and I hope to see that progression continue.  Imagine what he could have done with a competent OL or a healthy receiving corps.

I feel that he's also universally embraced by our fanbase, so there's none of that "should we keep Tenny" crap going on and it will give him the confidence to continue to grow.

I need a playoff appearance this year (or a playoff win next year) before I'm willing to say that he has "arrived."

But he's well on the way to eliminating that position as a concern.  He doesn't need to be a Drew Brees or an Aaron Rodgers; if he can be a Philip Rivers or a Matt Ryan, you can support him with a cast.

If he's a Joe Flacco or an Eli Manning (read: need miracle postseason to win anything), it will be tough.

Just two weeks ago there were a lot of people still screaming for Moore to replace him. I listened to the post game show yesterday and Joe Rose this morning and didn't hear it. Ridiculous as that sounds I wouldn't have been surprised as there are some pretty dumb fans out there ... of every team.

RG3 is hurt and crappy this year while Luck has taken a step back despite a horrid division. I mean, HORRID division. Tanny has more yards and TD's and a higher QB Rating than Luck, all while being sacked 24 more goddamn times. Luck runs a bit more and has a few less INT's, but you aren't wrong if you want to say Tannehill has been better.

You forgot Nick Foles as well. But bottom line is I don't compare Foles and Wilson to the others (Luck, RGIII, Tannehill, and Weeden). Foles and Wilson went in Round 3 and everyone passed on them at least twice and in some cases 3 times. Mid round picks that were diamonds in the rough that panned out. Their teams hit the jackpot in Rd 3 like NE hit the jackpot when they took Brady in Round 6. Hindsight is always 20/20 though.

Luck, RGIII, Tannehill, and Weeden you group together and compare since they were drafted within a few picks of each other at the Top of the draft and the 1st rounders. And out of THAT group of the 1st rounders, Tannehill is having the best season this year. I think long-term Luck will be the best player but the gap between Luck and Tannehill seems to be small at this point in time, very small. And if you told me in a couple years Tannehill is better than Luck I wouldn't be shocked. I think RGIII is a flash in the pan. Whoever Washington hires as their next coach better know how to use him or else I could see him out of the league in a few years.

Wilson is having a great year but his team asks him to do very little in the way of winning games with his arm. He only has 360 pass attempts....attempts!. Tannehill has around 320 or so completions and Luck is around 300 completions. Wilson throws the ball very little.

It has helped him. I mean he is a very good player, I'm not knocking him. But he isn't asked to do much. What he is asked to do he does well and comes through for them, every time. EVERY TIME!  Can't knock the guy. But if he is ever forced in a game to drop back 40 times and beat a team with his arm....I don't think he can. Not against a good defense at least.

### He’s the first Dolphin other than Dan Marino with at least 23 touchdown passes in a season.

That last stat, are they counting last year as well? We have all seen Tanny do well in a 2 minute drill, but how do you get 17 scoring drives in just 14 games? It's possible if you score and get the ball back, but that seems really high.
