THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: December 01, 2014, 11:26:29 pm »

Everybody was really negative on the game thread here tonight

In terms of players, it's hard to say.

I find it hard to pick one even though it was so ugly.

Maybe the refs because they were horrible?

Maybe Sturgis for the miss and kickoff out of bounds?

Randy Starks was a total bitch in the first half. Entire front 7 gave up 200 yards rushing but Starks was the worst

Mike Wallace for 1 handing a TD pass. 90% of the receivers in the NFL would have gotten their other hand on that ball and caught it. Heck 70% of the receivers in the NFL catch that with 1 hand, but you can't take that chance you have to get that other hand over there and secure that catch.

Tough one because it was a terrible showing of the Fins. If I have to give to pick one it would be "Laces out" Sturgis . He continues to miss opportunity points. As i said, I hope Hickey takes a note on this kid and start to look for another kicker in the offseason

Sturgis.  Missed kick, and kicks a squib out of bounds?

Every time he steps on the field, I'm terrified.

Wallace is a good choice too.  That attempt at a catch was embarrassing.  And then he doesn't understand why he isnt being targeted in the end zone?

Several key plays by several people. Coyle gets my nod for not stacking against the run soon enough.

Giving it to Sturgis for the squib out of bounds is ridiculous. Tear him for the missed figgie, no problem, but if your coach tells you to squib it, there's ALWAYS a chance it'll bounce out of bounds. And with the wind in his face and Harvin sneaking up to try and get the short kick, Sturgis pounded the ball out of the endzone at the end of the game.

Compare that to the horrendous effort of the offensive and defensive lines.

Coyle gets the final nod for not knowing that the Jets would try to keep Geno from throwing -- especially with the Dolphins coming off a horrible run-D game against the Broncos.

As ugly as that game was, it is odd that nobody is really jumping out at me as the obvious SOG.  I wanted to give it to Sturgis (I really hope they bring someone in to challenge him for the job next year), but he redeemed himself somewhat by drilling one out of the end zone at the end of the game on the kickoff when they really needed it.  So I guess I will give mine to Coyle just for not stacking the box early in the game.  I'm sure they didn't expect the Jets to run the ball so effectively.  But with Geno Smith being one of the worst QBs in the league, you would have thought that they would go into the game with the defensive mindset of making Smith throw the ball and stacking the box right from the beginning.

Kevin Coyle - this guy is clueless. You're going against the 2nd best run offense in the league, the worst quarterback and the worst group of wideouts and you continue playing two safeties high?

It isn't rocket science, Coyle. You make Geno Smith beat you!

Dion Jordon needs to go back to Pop Warner and ask someone what "contain" means. He was awful for most of the game last night.

He should be lining up at OLB, not DE.

I would like to change my vote to Kevin Coyle.  And not "the whole defense"... I mean, specifically, Kevin Coyle:

According to Delmas, defensive players communicated to the coaches what they believed would work in the second half. Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle listened and kept an extra safety closer to the line of scrimmage, giving the Dolphins eight players in the box for most of the second half. It worked, as the Jets gained just 67 rushing yards in the third and fourth quarters.

"We told them what we felt most comfortable with stopping the run," Delmas said. "And the coaches believed in us. They put us in the right position to make plays."

When the players not only have to tell you how to do your job, BUT HOW TO DO YOUR JOB IN THE MOST OBVIOUS FASHION, you have failed.
