Can't blame Sturgis, the conditions were far from ideal.  In case you missed it, Foles missed two kicks, and damn near missed a third.

Mine goes to Starks, he got run over.

I would like to change my vote to Kevin Coyle.  And not "the whole defense"... I mean, specifically, Kevin Coyle:

According to Delmas, defensive players communicated to the coaches what they believed would work in the second half. Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle listened and kept an extra safety closer to the line of scrimmage, giving the Dolphins eight players in the box for most of the second half. It worked, as the Jets gained just 67 rushing yards in the third and fourth quarters.

"We told them what we felt most comfortable with stopping the run," Delmas said. "And the coaches believed in us. They put us in the right position to make plays."

When the players not only have to tell you how to do your job, BUT HOW TO DO YOUR JOB IN THE MOST OBVIOUS FASHION, you have failed.

Pretty damning in my eyes.

Dion Jordan did get a punt block.  So there is that.
Lol ... Hope you were being funny. You select a guy who missed on one FG and gave up 15 extra yards on a kick-off and yet you try and pretend a guy who gave up 100 yards rushing and a TD doesn't deserve it because he made one play out of how many?

For the record I was pissed at Sturgis last night too but Nick Folk missed two and he is a pretty good kicker. I have to believe the wind in that stadium played a pretty big role last night.

So I guess the rest of the defense had a pretty good game against the run, then!

There were plenty of Dolphin defenders who sucked against the run AND made zero impact plays last night.  Not sure why Jordan stands out to you.

Yeah, definitely Coyle. It was the most obvious thing in the world that the Jets would run at least 60% of the time, but he was so inept at coaching it became 90%. They almost set NFL records.

That quote above about Coyle having to be told what to do by his experienced and talented players makes me think very little credit should be given to him for our improved defense.

Because Jordon gave up the last two huge runs that the Jets scored off of as he wasn't anywhere that they even had to run around him.  He kept running to the center of the field. That's so bad it's not even a rookie mistake. He wasn't even position to get beat so that is a step below those who were at least in position.

I did not realize the Dolphins deployed a 1 man defense against the Jets.

Yes that's exactly what that means Rich. It was Jordon againt the Jets and he failed miserably. Never mind it was his job to keep the play inside so other people could help him. In fact ... why even blame our o-line for sucking because obviously Mike Wallace plays offense too.

I doubt there was any big run play in that game where one man messed up.  Nearly every play involved multiple defenders getting manhandled on blocks, overpursuing players who didn't have the ball, failing to tackle, etc.

I don't see how it's even possible that there could be a run play in which everyone but Jordan was doing their job and the run goes for 50 yards.  If the defense is designed such that your second-string DE is the keystone and if he doesn't make the play it's a long run for a score, again, that's on Coyle for a poor scheme.

You're the one singling out a player when the entire defense was horrible against the run.

How do you know if it was his job to keep the play inside? Were you listening to the playcall on a headset? How do you know a stunt wasn't called on that play? Kevin Coyle himself admitted that he called a few poorly timed blitzes and stunts and that the Jets gained their best runs against those.

Ball watching at its finest. Good job.

I don't think you can blame Sturgis for the missed FG either.  Let's look at stats on this...

Caleb Sturgis is 24th in the league in FG percentage at 83%.  Pretty dismal, on the surface.   Of the 23 guys above Sturgis on that list, 6 of them have fewer than 20 attempts.  Sturgis is 7th in the league in FG made, and tied for 3rd in attempts.  Included in his 5 misses, there is 1 blocked attempt.  All of Sturgis's misses have come from beyond 43 yards (not including the one block from 37), where the league-wide average is 64.45% (Sturgis is 7 of 11, 63.6%).

Kickers with worse percentage numbers on that list include Cundiff, Prater, Henery, Gould, and Scobee.

The point is, kickers miss sometimes.  It happens.  You could do a lot worse in this NFL than Caleb Sturgis.

Although I already changed my vote to Coyle, given that both kickers sucked that game, I will agree that Sturgis was not exceptionally bad.
