Which would you rather watch on TV?

A Playoff hockey game.
A Poker Tournament.

Could I get a mod to convert this into an actual poll. I'm curious.

Is there a time limit involved? I'm not a hockey or poker fan, but if I had to, I'd choose poker.

Playoff hockey is going to win every time with die hard sports fans, hell I love hockey. Doesn't change the fact the ratings are what the ratings are. And Poker gets better ratings than the NHL for ALL of the national NHL games during the regular season and for some in the post season

I didn't even realize they still showed poker on TV. I thought for sure that would have died off by now.

I like hockey a little bit...and I like poker a little bit. If I have to choose which one I am watching on TV, and to be honest, I rarely watch either, I am usually going to go with poker. Hockey on TV bores the crap out of me, and I don't play hockey (at 50 years old and 300 lbs...in Florida, hockey isn't a realistic option<g>) but I can watch poker and see how the professionals bid, based on their hands, and actually learn something that could help me in the really-real world. For an amateur, I am pretty serious about playing poker, and by "serious," I mean that I play occasional local games and own a few books on poker strategy.

I'll take the skillful, fast paced, hard hitting sport of hockey any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Bunch of old dudes playing cards? I'd rather watch a Magic the Gathering tournament...

Old dudes? You apparently haven't been watching any poker lately. The game has been taken over by the young dudes...

Though I don't really enjoy playing poker all that much, I do enjoy watching it.  I find a great parallel between some of the less-physical "sports" and poker.  Golf, NASCAR, Bowling -- these sports are long and draining.  And how you deal with the fatigue of the grind and your ability to adjust are what make great players.  I find poker very similar to this.  Sometimes you get on tilt when you lose a big hand (it's like hitting in the water in golf or spinning out in NASCAR) and it's how you recover that matters.  Also, just doing the same thing over and over and hanging in there can really affect your judgment and you gotta know when to take your shot.

I stand corrected. How about dudes, in general.  Grin And yeah you're right, haven't been watching. Except that one time where I stopped on the channel for about 25 seconds and had a moment like this:

before changing it.

I feel like I could say the same to the people who voted for poker: "you haven't watched any playoff hockey lately"

^^^ I spent three years to trying to develop a taste for hockey, and watched at least 100-150 games during that time...including playoff games. I just couldn't get myself to enjoy it that much.

I feel the same way about soccer...and golf. I know that a lot of people like watching those sports, but they just don't appeal to me.

To be fair: aren't you also a big fan of regular season hockey?

I mean, if you like regular season hockey, then of course you're going to like playoff hockey.

To me, I've always had a problem with hockey because it's not as violent as I thought it would be. I was always naive about it because I figured with all the pads people would be taking other people out like crazy, like football. It's just not exciting to me. Then I also have a problem following the puck. I know they tried to add some highlight to it during the playoffs a few years ago or longer, but that didn't work. I'd rather watch it more than baseball, but that's not saying much.  Grin
